The Rass Family

The Waters has been a blessing to us. Since we moved here in 2019, we have gained such a close-knit community and have met some of our best friends.

Kevin and I moved to Prattville, AL, after graduating from Auburn University so we could be near our jobs. Kevin is an environmental specialist at Alabama Power (Calera office), and I work at the Central Alabama VA as a clinical pharmacist. We eventually moved to Montgomery to be closer to my office. We have two daughters, MacKenzie (7), an upcoming second-grader at Pike Road Schools, and Olivia (4), who went to Macon East Academy for Pre-K3.

As MacKenzie got nearer to kindergarten age, we knew we wanted her to be a part of Pike Road Schools. We had looked at The Waters prior to moving to Montgomery, and this brought up another opportunity to search in Pike Road for a home. We landed our current home as a family was relocating, and it had the floorplan we had loved, so it was meant to be. We then realized we were in a circle of homes (or “The Ramble,” as we call it) that had girls our girls’ ages, and we were on a street with mostly girls (lovingly referred to as the “girl gang”). I love that our kids can run around outside with their friends to play in The Ramble and on our street or go house to house to play with their friends.

When we first moved to Pike Road, we got plugged in immediately to Century Church as it was originally at the school and a fun golf cart drive away. It was exactly what our family needed and has a wonderful community for our girls as well. It has since moved to the property on Marler Road but is still just a quick drive or golf cart ride away. Our church is also “community first,” and I love that we get to be a part of bringing service and love to the town of Pike Road.
Some of our favorite things about The Waters are evening sunset cruises in our golf cart and taking the girls to the parks, pools, and beach area, as well as all the activities in the neighborhood, such as the Easter egg hunt, pictures with Santa at the pavilion, Music in May, wine night at the Hole in the Wall, and the Fourth of July and Mardi Gras parades.

Another favorite activity is the Fourth of July fireworks. When COVID hit, and The Waters was no longer the venue for fireworks for the town of Pike Road, neighbors still wanted to continue the tradition. Kevin decided to organize donations from our neighborhood to put on a great show. We were so amazed at the outpouring of folks who wanted to contribute. It was so fun to see our neighborhood show up to continue this tradition with the golf cart parade in the morning and people out tailgating for the fireworks in the evening.

We are grateful that we have such amazing neighbors that we can literally ask for a cup of sugar and will get several responses on the neighborhood page. I love that with the closeness of our homes, we also have the closeness of neighbors and friends.
