What is February?

Betty and Bessie Allshouse, born Feb. 18, 1924

February is a month that symbolizes love, whether it be the love of family and friends or love for our county.  Valentine's Day, celebrated on Feb. 14, with its dark origin honoring the Christian martyr named Saint Valentine, who was executed by Emperor Claudius III, has become the celebration of romance and love. And President's Day, celebrated on the third Monday of February, honors all persons who have served as Presidents of the United States of America.

February has always been one of my favorite months because it also houses the birthdays of some of my very favorite people! My grandmother was born on Feb. 18, along with her twin sister.  Until her passing in 2001, my grandmother was my best friend. It was a blessing when, in 2008, my twin boys came six weeks early to be born on her birthday!

So, I hope that everyone has cause to celebrate this February. Whether it be on Valentine's Day, President's Day or some other occasion, have a great February, and I look forward to returning to you all in March!
