For as long as I can remember, reading has been one of life's greatest pleasures.

Books offer relaxation, enjoyment, and escape. Through reading, I've traveled to exciting countries, learned about different traditions and customs, met unforgettable characters, and experienced everything from romance and drama to mystery, murder, and thrilling adventures. A good book allows your imagination to wander and your mind to explore places you may never otherwise visit.

I have been an avid reader since my early teens. Like many readers, I began with the Nancy Drew series and quickly discovered how much I enjoyed following characters through multiple adventures.

Today, I still find myself drawn to series books. When I finish a story, I often want to know what happens next. I become invested in the characters and look forward to seeing how they grow, what challenges they face, and where life takes them.

One series I'm currently enjoying is the Lucy Kincaid series by Alison Brennan. I am reading Dead Heat, one of 22 books that follow Lucy's life and career. Throughout the series, Lucy overcomes a tragic experience from her youth, becomes a police officer, trains with the FBI, and ultimately serves as a field agent. In each book, she challenges herself to solve mysteries, investigate crimes, and help others, often placing the safety of others ahead of her own.

While these books are categorized as mysteries and thrillers, I would also describe them as containing elements of drama and romance, which makes them especially enjoyable.

Another author I enjoy is Lisa Jackson, particularly her Bentz and Montoya novels. Nora Roberts is another favorite, especially her Sisters Trilogy. And whenever James Patterson releases a new Alex Cross mystery, I can't wait to get my hands on a copy.

Sometimes, when I finish a book I especially enjoyed, I find myself reading it all over again. The characters begin to feel familiar, almost like old friends.

Three years ago this July, I began a new chapter of my own when I became a resident of Summerwind East.

After unexpectedly losing my husband, I found myself searching for a new place to call home. A close friend, Marian Kreutzer, had been living in Summerwind East and often spoke highly of the community. When I learned there was one final lot available, I was fortunate enough to secure it.

From the very first day I arrived, I knew I had found something special.

I still remember Colleen meeting me at my car and helping me unpack. She gave me her phone number and told me that she and her husband, Gary, were only a phone call away if I ever needed anything. My neighbors, Lucy and Kathy, who live on either side of me, welcomed me with the same kindness.

Since then, I have found nothing but friendship, compassion, and support from the people who call this community home.

Summerwind East is much more than a neighborhood. It is a family.

From neighborhood walks and porch sitting to dinner nights, Bunco games, potluck gatherings, and simply being there for one another, the people here genuinely care. Whether someone is collecting your mail while you're away or sharing stories over coffee, there is a sense of connection that is increasingly rare to find.

As much as I enjoy reading about wonderful characters and inspiring journeys, I feel incredibly fortunate to be living among people whose kindness and friendship make every day feel like part of a story worth telling.

Looking back, I couldn't feel more blessed or more thankful that God led me to this truly one-of-a-kind community.
