Minnie by Name, Not by Nature

Named for her tiny size as a puppy, this Yorkie quickly grew into the biggest of her litter—and the biggest personality in the house.

Hi, neighbors! My name is Minnie, and before we get started, I'd like to clear up one important misunderstanding.

I am not actually mini.

Sure, I started out that way. I was the tiniest puppy in my litter, which is exactly how I ended up with my name. When my mom, Donna, first met me, I was so small that "Minnie" immediately came to mind.

Well, the joke's on her.

These days, I'm actually the biggest puppy from my litter. Personally, I think "Maxie" would have been much more accurate, but by the time everyone realized that, the name had already stuck.

My story began when Mom was looking for a new Yorkie companion. She had loved and lost her beloved Yorkie, Munchkin, in 2023, and her friends Kenny and Garland connected her with someone who had a litter of Yorkie puppies. The rest, as they say, is history.

Now I spend my days making sure life at our house is never boring.

Some dogs enjoy chewing on dog toys. I prefer to keep my options open.

Drapes? Delicious.

Rugs? Interesting texture.

Shoes? Depends on the style.

Expensive coffee table books? Let's just say I have very refined literary tastes.

Fortunately, my sweet puppy face helps me get away with a lot.

When I'm not redecorating the house one chew mark at a time, you'll usually find me wrestling with my Chihuahua sister. We can play for hours without getting tired. If she's awake, I'm ready to play.

I'm also an elite-level fetch athlete. Throw the ball once and I'll bring it back. Throw it twice and I'll bring it back again. Throw it a hundred times and, honestly, I'm just getting warmed up.

One of my favorite activities is riding around the neighborhood in my pink stroller. That's right. A pink stroller. Some dogs walk. I prefer to travel in style.

Every day, Mom and I take strolls around the pond to feed Clyde. It's one of our favorite routines. We also spend time at the park gazebo, where I sit on Mom's lap and watch the birds. I take my bird-watching responsibilities very seriously. Someone has to keep an eye on things around here.

Of course, I have plenty of cozy places to relax after such a busy schedule. I have a fancy daybed in the living room and another bed positioned perfectly for sunbathing by the sliding glass door. A girl needs options.

But if you ask Mom what she loves most about me, she won't mention the fetch marathons, stroller rides, or my impressive collection of partially chewed household items.

She'll tell you it's the way I make her smile.

And honestly, that's my favorite thing too.

Every day, we take our walks, visit Clyde, watch the birds, and spend time together. It may not sound like much, but to me it's everything.

After all, being someone's dog isn't just about having a home. It's about having your person.

And I'm pretty sure I found mine.
