The Insurance Coverage Conversation You Didn’t Know You Needed
Farm Bureau Insurance agent Ben Love helps families safeguard the life they’ve built through thoughtful planning, honest conversations, and the right coverage.
Insurance is one of those things most people know they need, but few people fully understand. Policies get purchased, premiums get paid, and life moves forward. Yet many homeowners and families are surprised to discover just how many gaps can exist in their coverage until someone takes the time to walk them through it.
That’s exactly the role Ben Love hopes to play for the people he serves.
A Farm Bureau Insurance agent based in Lafayette, Ben approaches insurance differently than the typical “quote and compare” experience many people expect. His goal isn’t just to write policies, but to help families understand how to truly protect the lives they have built.
We sat down with Ben to learn more about his story and how he helps families gain peace of mind when it comes to insurance.
How did you get into the insurance industry?
My path into insurance was actually very personal. When my father passed away in 2019, I learned more about the life insurance policy he had put in place for our family. It wasn’t really about the amount of money. What struck me was the thought he had put into planning ahead and making sure we were taken care of.
That experience made me curious about the industry and how these policies work. As I started researching and learning more, I realized that insurance plays a powerful role in protecting families and their financial future. That ultimately led me to Farm Bureau, where I’ve now been helping families for about five years.
Before joining Farm Bureau, I spent nearly seven years in sports radio, hosting weekday afternoons on Bumper to Bumper Sports on 103.7 The Game. That role connected me with listeners across the community and allowed me to build relationships through conversation, something I still value deeply today.
What types of insurance do you typically help families with?
Our primary offerings at Farm Bureau are home, auto, and life insurance. For most households, auto insurance tends to be the most common starting point because it’s the only type that is legally required.
But what I’ve found is that many families haven’t had someone sit down with them and truly explain how their coverage works. They may have the same policy they’ve carried since college or the minimum coverage required by the state without realizing how exposed that can leave them.
One of the things I enjoy most is helping people understand their liability limits and how those limits relate to their lifestyle, income, and assets. For many families, a simple conversation can reveal gaps they didn’t even realize existed.
What makes your approach different from other insurance agents?
What I enjoy most is conducting a full, comprehensive review for a family. That conversation is completely free and often becomes one of the most valuable things I offer.
During that review, we look at everything: home, auto, life insurance, and sometimes even estate considerations. Often, it leads to education more than anything else. I may explain what their current policy limits actually mean in a real-life scenario, or point out areas where they may want to consider stronger protection.
Sometimes the solution involves writing a policy with me. Other times it may involve referring someone to an estate attorney, financial professional, or another trusted resource.
At the end of the day, I want to be a long-term insurance resource for families, even if that means helping them find solutions outside of my office.
What are some common misconceptions about insurance?
One misconception I hear a lot is that insurance companies will collect premiums for years but become difficult when it’s time to file a claim. People sometimes worry they won’t be taken care of when they need it most.
That’s one of the reasons I’m proud to represent Farm Bureau. Our claims team is incredibly strong, and I’ve seen firsthand how seriously they take the responsibility of helping families when something goes wrong.
Insurance is ultimately about trust, and having the right team behind you makes a big difference.
Who is your ideal client?
Insurance planning is something that can benefit people at every stage of life. I especially enjoy working with young families who are building their lives and may not have had these conversations yet. That’s often the 25 to 45 stage of life when people are buying homes, raising kids, and growing their careers.
But I also love working with business owners. When someone is both the head of their household and the leader of a business, the complexity of their protection needs often doubles. Helping those families think through the “what ifs” and build a plan around them is incredibly rewarding.
Originally from Baton Rouge, Ben has lived in Lafayette for more than eleven years. Outside of work, he is an avid runner who enjoys training for marathons, fishing, hunting, and cheering on his favorite sports teams. He is also active in the local running community, sponsors races in the Lafayette Triple Crown series, serves as a lector at Holy Cross Catholic Church, and coaches his son’s T-ball team.
For Ben, insurance ultimately comes down to one thing: helping families sleep better at night.
“Most people don’t realize where their coverage gaps are until someone takes the time to explain it,” he says. “If I can help a family understand their options and move forward with confidence and peace of mind, then I’ve done my job.”
