Bowling!

Britton Falls has a bowling group that meets every Friday at Pinheads in Fishers!

What is your hobby and why?
Bowling! When I quit College after a semester in 1971 I joined the Masons, Scottish Rite & Murat Shrine and started bowling with my dad and brothers in the Murat Shrine League and two other leagues. I have bowled in 3-5 leagues a week ever since missing one year for back fusion surgery.

Is there a special person who inspired you? Was there an event in your life that motivated you to begin? What inspires you to keep going?
My Dad and Mom bowled in leagues when I was a kid and always wanted to bowl with my dad in the Murat Shrine League. As long as I can compete and keep a decent average I would like to keep Bowling as long as possible.

What are the biggest challenges and opportunities? What talents/traits have been cultivated through your involvement? What accomplishments have you earned?
Just keeping healthy enough to bowl over 400 games in a season. I learned different skills from other bowlers to better my game. In the 2006-07 season, I had a 204 average for 441 games. I have a high series of 794, 249-266-279. Bowled my 7th 300 game 2 years ago right after I turned 70 years old.

What do you enjoy about your passion? How has it opened up opportunities for you? Have you been involved in special community projects that have influenced your skill or talent?
Getting to bowl with friends and meeting new ones year to year. Getting to travel to 13+ different cities to bowl in the ABC & USBC National Tournaments once a year. Next year in Vegas will be my 30th.

Can you share a story about how this has impacted your life/the lives of others? Do you have a memorable moment you'd like to share?
One year my dad and I bowled in the city Doubles Tournament and came in 2nd place. I had my highest game at that time of 279. He passed away in May of 1998 and I met my current wife Susie in July 1998 and then bowled my 1st 300 in November 1998 at the age of 47. It was an emotional year.

What advice or information would you share with someone interested in getting involved in your special interest or pursuing their own?
Indianapolis and the surrounding area have many bowling centers to join a league or just for fun. Britton Falls has a group that meets every Friday at Pinheads in Fishers at 1 pm for 3 games of bowling and Diet Coke for $8.
