For the Nelke family, a recent trip to Germany offered the perfect combination of adventure, culture, and a shared passion for high-performance automobiles.

Catherine, Rob, and Connor Nelke spent eight days exploring Munich, Stuttgart, Oberammergau, and the Bavarian countryside, visiting legendary automotive destinations while also experiencing some of Germany's most picturesque villages and historic landmarks.

"As a family, we love to explore exotic and high-performance cars," Catherine said, explaining what inspired the trip.

Their itinerary included several bucket-list stops, including the Porsche Museum and factory in Stuttgart, the Mercedes-Benz Museum, the charming village of Oberammergau, and the iconic Neuschwanstein Castle, whose soaring towers and mountain setting seem straight out of a fairy tale.

Of all the memories they brought home, one unexpected surprise stands above the rest.

Before leaving for Germany, Catherine spent weeks trying to secure tickets for a Porsche factory tour. Knowing tours often sell out months in advance, she worried that because of her limited German language skills, she had only managed to purchase museum admission. After numerous attempts to confirm a factory visit, she finally gave up and decided to enjoy the museum instead.

When the family arrived in Stuttgart, however, a museum docent reviewed their reservation and delivered some exciting news.

Not only had Catherine successfully booked factory tickets, but she had also unknowingly reserved a VIP private tour.

The experience provided rare behind-the-scenes access to Porsche's assembly operation, where the Nelkes witnessed the precision, craftsmanship, and attention to detail that go into building some of the world's most coveted automobiles.

As if that were not exciting enough, Connor received an invitation few car enthusiasts could ever imagine.

During the tour, he was allowed to sit inside a brand-new custom Porsche 911 GT3 as it slowly moved down the assembly line on its way to its future owner, a sheikh in Saudi Arabia.

"It was incredible," Catherine recalled.

Beyond the automotive attractions, the family embraced German culture and hospitality. They enjoyed traditional German fare throughout their travels and found residents welcoming in every region they visited.

One favorite stop was Munich's famous Hofbräuhaus, where lively music, traditional dancing, hearty food, and German ale created an atmosphere they will not soon forget.

The only challenge? Navigating the Autobahn.

"It was pretty scary for me," Catherine admitted. "You need to be a skilled, fearless driver who knows the rules."

Looking back, the Nelkes agree that Germany exceeded expectations. Beautiful, clean, and welcoming, it provided the perfect setting for a vacation filled with unforgettable memories.
