Meet Odie
Odie is living the life of luxury with Snell Isle residents Kristina and Troy Mills.
“If we could all be Odie, we could sit around, lounge, and rest,” laughs Kristina. At 112 pounds, Odie fits the classic Great Dane description to a tee. He’s big, lovable, slightly dramatic, and completely convinced the world revolves around him.
“He likes to be on the couch,” Kristina says. “He wants to be next to you. If Troy and I are sitting on the couch, he will stare at you until you move.”
It’s all part of Odie’s charm. The stare. The patience. The quiet insistence that somehow convinces everyone in the room that yes, of course the giant dog deserves the prime seat.
“He’s a bit of a comedy act,” Kristina says.
Odie joined the Mills family in 2020, and since then he has fully embraced his role as the center of attention. Life in the Mills household revolves around comfort, companionship, and making sure Odie has plenty of places to relax.
And relax he does.
“We have little dog beds in all the rooms,” Kristina explains. Where does he sleep? “The house is his oyster,” she smiles. Odie can stretch out just about anywhere he pleases. Though there is one place that doesn’t quite work out.
“He’s too large to be in the bed,” Kristina laughs. “Believe me, he tried.”
His impressive size makes that understandable. When standing tall, Odie’s head is higher than most of the tables in the house (and even taller than Troy!). Despite his towering height, Odie has surprisingly good manners. For a dog who can easily peer over tabletops, he shows remarkable restraint.
“He will sniff the food on the table,” Kristina says, “but he backs away.”
That gentle nature is one of the things the family loves most about him.
The Mills household has always been a dog-loving home. Kristina says they have had dogs since Rylie was three years old, and Rylie will be 25 this year. For their family, having a dog simply feels natural. And Odie fits perfectly into that picture. With his calm presence and playful personality, he brings laughter and warmth to everyday life.
He may be enormous, he may claim the couch as his personal throne, and he may occasionally attempt to test the limits of furniture designed for humans, but Odie is, without question, a cherished member of the Mills family.
After all, when you’re living life like Odie, there’s really only one rule:
Relax and enjoy the moment.
