Bentley’s Loyal Following
Linda Pritchett’s six-year-old Havanese keeps close tabs on the entire family — and especially on her.
For Linda Pritchett, Bentley has never really been “just a dog.” The six-year-old Havanese quickly became woven into the rhythm of daily life after joining the family as a tiny 12-week-old puppy weighing only five pounds.
Linda says she first became interested in the breed after spending time with her sister’s two Havanese. She eventually found Bentley through a breeder in Archdale and says she “could not meet him fast enough.” Today, Bentley is a sturdy 13 pounds and, according to Linda, “pure love and joy.”
Originally from Cuba, the Havanese breed is known for being intelligent, social, and deeply attached to its people — qualities Bentley seems to embody naturally. While he enjoys playing, he is happiest simply being near his family.
“His trait is being my shadow,” Linda says. “He follows me everywhere.”
That loyalty extends throughout the household. Bentley is equally attached to Linda’s husband and gets along well with the family’s two cats. Linda says the pets genuinely enjoy one another’s company, creating a calm and connected home environment.
Bentley’s favorite activity is playing fetch with his stuffed moose, though Linda notes he does have one unusual preference: “I think he’s the only dog on the planet that hates peanut butter.”
The family also enjoys regular play dates with Wilson, a cocker spaniel recently adopted by Linda’s son. The two dogs quickly bonded and spend their time chasing, wrestling, and wearing each other out.
Linda says Bentley’s steady companionship has become part of everyday family life.
“He is literally a part of our family,” she says. “Our lives tend to revolve around him. He is a really great dog — happy and healthy.”
