Mahjong & Mayhem: Alexa’s Table is Always Full
With a house full of laughter, snacks, and plenty of Cracks, Alexa Donnellan has turned Mahjong into one of Riverview’s favorite pastimes.
If you hear the clink of tiles and bursts of laughter coming from Alexa Donnellan’s house, you have found Riverview’s Mahjong hot spot. After learning the game from Sara Kilbride of Holy City Mahjong, Alexa was instantly hooked.
What started as a fun challenge quickly grew into something bigger. Today she runs a 32-woman league in Chattanooga, plays with friends three times a week, and has introduced more than 150 women to the game. “I have met a ton of people in Chattanooga through Mahjong,” she says. “The friendships are the best part.”
Her core crew—Brooke Fuller, Holley Davis, Emily Felts, Jenn Fuller, and Johnna Tate—help her keep the league running and keep the fun rolling. The games happen at Alexa’s house, where the pantry is always open, the wine is flowing, and the competition is fierce. Alexa admits she and Brooke might be the most competitive players at the table, and their group even added their own spin with something called a “MUSHY” during Charleston.
Mahjong has brought laughter, connection, and plenty of memories to Riverview. And at Alexa’s table, there is always room for one more.
