Acadiana Movers: Taking the Stress Out of Moving
Owners Scott Feehan and David Treadway share how professionalism, empathy, and preparation are redefining the moving experience in Acadiana.
What first inspired the two of you to go into business together?
Scott and I have known each other since college at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where we both studied Business Systems Analysis and Technology. After graduation, our careers went in different directions, but we always stayed close and talked about partnering together one day.
David spent years climbing the corporate ladder, eventually serving in executive leadership roles at PHI and one of its subsidiaries. Scott was always entrepreneurial and built several successful businesses over the years. Eventually, we started seriously discussing the idea of purchasing an established local company where we could apply what we learned in the corporate and technology worlds to help a business grow and operate more efficiently.
When we found Acadiana Movers, it immediately stood out to us. It was locally owned, well-established, and had a strong reputation with room for innovation and growth.
What surprised you most once you entered the moving industry?
The biggest thing was how emotional moving can be for families.
Most people think movers are simply transporting furniture and boxes, but what we’re really moving is people’s lives. Moving often happens during major life moments — growing families, downsizing, career changes, military relocations, loss of loved ones, and fresh starts. It’s a stressful and emotional time for many people.
We realized very quickly that professionalism alone isn’t enough in this industry. You also need empathy. Our crews have to understand that they’re entering someone’s home during a major transition, and how they communicate and care for people matters just as much as how they handle furniture.
What do you believe truly sets Acadiana Movers apart?
Training and professionalism.
This industry, unfortunately, has a lot of what we call “Chuck in a truck” operations. People who rent a truck, hire temporary labor, and start moving heavy items without proper systems or training in place.
We’ve invested heavily in formal training programs for our crews. That includes safety training, moving techniques, customer interaction, and property protection. We focus not only on protecting the items being moved, but also protecting floors, door frames, staircases, and homes themselves.
Our crews are trained to slow down, pay attention to details, and communicate clearly with clients throughout the process. That level of preparation makes a huge difference in the customer experience.
What should homeowners look for when hiring a moving company?
Preparation and planning are everything.
A quality moving company should never just glance at your furniture and throw out a number. They should carefully assess the home itself, doorways, stairs, driveways, specialty items, fragile pieces, access points, and anything that may require additional protection or equipment.
We take photos and videos when needed, create detailed inventories, and build an operational plan before moving day even arrives. That helps us give more accurate quotes, but more importantly, it helps us create a smoother, safer move for the customer.
Are there any misconceptions about the moving industry that homeowners should know?
One of the biggest misconceptions involves valuation coverage and protection during a move.
Many people assume all of their belongings are automatically fully covered if something is damaged. In reality, the federally regulated standard coverage for moving companies is only 60 cents per pound.
That means if a $5,000 sofa is damaged, the reimbursement could be as small as $150.
We educate customers about that upfront and offer full valuation protection options for added peace of mind. We’re also able to confidently offer those protections because of the extensive training and operational standards we’ve built internally.
What services does Acadiana Movers offer beyond traditional moving?
Beyond traditional residential moving, we also handle a wide range of commercial moving and logistics projects. From office relocations to large-scale project coordination, new building launches, and general contractor collaboration, our team is experienced in managing all types of commercial moves with efficiency, organization, and attention to detail.
On the residential side, we really try to meet customers wherever they are in the moving process. Of course, we handle residential and military household moves, but we also offer full packing services, temporary and long-term storage solutions, and labor-only services for customers who may already have a rental truck or portable storage container.
We also offer ready-to-go box packages based on home size, which helps take the guesswork out of figuring out moving supplies. We can even deliver everything directly to your door and help pack if needed, allowing us to create a moving experience that’s as seamless and stress-free as possible.
What happens if an issue arises during a move?
One thing customers appreciate is accessibility.
If an issue comes up, you’re not getting routed through a giant corporate call center. You’ll speak directly with one of us.
We believe accountability matters, especially in a business built on trust. Our goal is always to make things right and ensure the customer feels taken care of throughout the entire process.
How is Acadiana Movers involved in the local community?
Being locally owned means a lot to us because Acadiana is home.
We’ve donated trucks and drivers for the Catholic Charities of Acadiana food drive for years, and we support organizations and events like Festival International de Louisiane and various local charitable fundraisers throughout the year.
We care deeply about this community because our families live here too.
Outside of work, what do you both enjoy doing?
Scott grew up in Broussard and enjoys music, traveling, camping with his family, and biking. David is a Lafayette native who enjoys golf, cooking, and hiking with his family. Both of us are married with two children and are proud to continue raising our families right here in Acadiana.
Final question. What do you hope customers feel after working with Acadiana Movers?
Relieved.
Moving is stressful enough already. Our goal is for customers to feel like they have a team they can trust handling the heavy lifting, both literally and figuratively.
