Spice of Life Salsa
Marci Guthiel’s homemade salsa is more than a recipe. It’s a taste of Texas, a nod to heritage, and the kind of thing you’ll want to keep stocked in your fridge all year long.
If there’s one thing Marci Guthiel knows, it’s good salsa. Growing up in Texas with Latina roots, Mexican food has always been at the heart of her table, and this homemade salsa is a staple she returns to again and again. Whether it’s making an appearance on Taco Tuesday, showing up at a neighbor’s door as a holiday gift, or simply waiting in the fridge for whenever the craving strikes, Marci’s recipe is simple, fresh, and full of flavor. “I usually have a big batch of it on hand,” she says. Now, so can you.
Ingredients
- 5 jalapeños
- 2 serranos
- 32 oz. diced tomatoes
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- A big dash of love
Instructions
- Boil the peppers for 15 minutes.
- Once cooled slightly, slice the peppers in half, de-seed them, and cut off the tops.
- Add the diced tomatoes and peppers to a blender. Pulse 3 to 4 times for just a few seconds. Be careful not to over-blend, or the chile (as Marci’s grandmother called it) will turn runny.
- Pour the salsa into an airtight container.
- Add salt and pepper when serving. Marci recommends holding off on salting the salsa in the blender, as salt draws out the water in the tomatoes and can make it watery.
- Serve and share with those you love.
