For Karla, Blooming Outdoor Living has always been about more than lawns and landscaping. It's a family story rooted in resilience and perseverance, hard work, and a genuine desire to help neighbors care for the places they call home. Originally from El Salvador, Karla came to the United States as a young child and was raised in South Central Los Angeles. Today, she is the proud mother of five children: Lani, Denisse, Alex, Miguel, and Benji; her family has shaped both her life and her business.

What began with small jobs like mowing lawns, spreading mulch, and helping neighbors gradually grew into the family-run landscaping company they operate today. Inspired by a desire to treat customers fairly and provide reliable, honest service, Karla set out to build a business grounded in integrity and quality work.

The vision truly came into focus when her oldest son, Alex, was just six years old and asked if he could help mow the lawn. "I saw the vision of teaching for greatness," Karla recalls.

Working together became about much more than completing jobs. It was an opportunity to teach responsibility, communication, and teamwork while creating something meaningful as a family. Every child has learned practical skills, from operating lawn equipment and spreading mulch to making deliveries and cutting pavers, and Karla believes those experiences build confidence that extends far beyond landscaping.

Lani, the oldest, has become a key part of the business while pursuing a future in education. She laughs that her own introduction to landscaping began as a punishment when she was younger. What started with reluctance eventually grew into confidence, giving her the communication skills to represent the family business at community events and conferences. Denisse also helps with the business while pursuing her passion for cosmetology.

Away from work, the family enjoys fishing, making music, and spending time on the water. Miguel and Benji especially love crabbing. For Karla, those outings are another way to teach responsibility, self-reliance, and an appreciation for the outdoors.

Serving the community remains at the heart of everything they do. Many of their customers are older adults who can no longer manage demanding yard work or safely work outside in extreme weather. Karla believes the most important part of serving people is listening.

"With so many businesses out there," she says, "our biggest interest is making sure our customers know we're paying attention to their needs and wants."

That philosophy has created lasting relationships built on trust. "I take care of you. You take care of me," Karla says.

Those words became especially meaningful after the family lost their home and much of their landscaping equipment, forcing them to rebuild from the ground up. Throughout that difficult chapter, customers continued offering encouragement, work, and support. One customer even helped the family find a new home, allowing them to settle in Milford and rebuild both their lives and their business.

Rather than dwelling on hardship, Karla focuses on gratitude. The experience reinforced her belief that Blooming Outdoor Living is built on more than landscaping... it's built on relationships.

She also takes pride in showing young women what is possible in an industry where they aren't always expected, encouraging others to develop confidence, practical skills, and strong character.

As Blooming Outdoor Living approaches its ninth anniversary, Karla's vision is to continue growing the business while creating lasting stability for her family. She hopes it will provide a strong foundation for her children and continue serving the neighbors who have supported them every step of the way.

Whether they're mowing a lawn, refreshing flower beds, or transforming an outdoor space, the family's promise remains the same: work hard, be honest, be reliable, and help bring every customer's vision to life with a smile along the way.
