For the past five years, Bear has happily called the Rehoboth Beach Yacht and Country Club neighborhood home. From his point of view, life couldn't get much better—his family is nearby, the beach is never far away, and every day holds the promise of another adventure.

At eight years old, this 120-pound Golden Retriever has grown into exactly what his breeder predicted: a bear-sized bundle of loyalty and love. In fact, that's how he got his name. His father was unusually large for the breed, and Bear followed right in his paw prints, becoming the family's gentle giant.

Bear's favorite place in the world is the beach. Whether he's charging into the ocean for a swim or racing along the shoreline, he's completely in his element. When he's not splashing through the waves, he's usually keeping a watchful eye on the children he loves so fiercely. Of course, Bear has a playful side too. He's an expert at making food disappear in record time and rarely goes anywhere without his beloved stuffed Lamby. Around the neighborhood, you'll often find him spending time with his best buddies—his little brother, Crash, and his cousin, Ally, who lives just a block away on Surrey.

One family memory stands above the rest: Bear bravely killed a snake in the front yard while the boys were playing nearby, reminding everyone that beneath his easygoing personality is a courageous protector. Still, if you asked Bear what his perfect day looks like, he'd probably choose a swim in the ocean, a visit to his uncle's pool, and plenty of time with the people he loves most.
