Kona & Her Marine: "Semper Fi!"

When we stopped by to photograph the Cuneo's red, white, and blue home on Kensington, we found our precious, patriotic pet of the month, as well!

While their seasoned canine crew member will gladly join Chris and Mary Ann on the voyages they have planned for Cuttyhunk and Newport this summer, Chris says, “Max is the happiest trolling around in the dinghy!”

Kona keeps Paula and John Cuneo on their toes, quite literally, as he prefers any toys that squeak and loves to tear apart just about any paper towel he can get ahold of.

The now-four-year-old Morkie—that’s a Maltese and Yorkshire Terrier blend—came from an Amish breeder in Ohio, where neighbors on either side of the Cuneo's home picked up their special pups, too. Kona joined Brandy, their beloved black lab-retriever rescue from Tennessee, who died last year at the nice old age of 14.

His best buddies now, according to mom, are those he’s met at Beach Dawgs Daycare in Cedarville, where he plays and socializes twice a week—and gives mom and dad a much-deserved break! Back in his neighborhood along Kensington, where Kona loves to take his walks, he's quite popular as well, and has befriended a whole crew: Maui, Bentley, Molly, Houston and Lucy, to name a few.

But Kona’s silliest quirk, one Paula simply can’t explain, is that he licks her fourth and fifth toes, specifically, but only when she’s barefoot and sitting down. “Never anyone else’s in the family….Go figure!”
