Meet Barb Panek, owner of Comfort's Bakery, a one-of-a-kind baking and woodworking business where artistry meets deliciousness. Born and raised in Louisville as the only girl among five siblings, Barb learned early how to hold her own—and also how to shine in the kitchen. Surrounded by four brothers, she found joy in baking and creating, a passion that quietly grew until it became something much more.

After high school, Barb enlisted in the military and eventually out-processed from Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Her journey took her across the country and around the world. When her husband was deployed to Desert Shield/Desert Storm, Barb remained stateside. After his return, they were stationed in Alaska for three years before settling in his home state of Michigan. It was there that Barb earned her degree in Health Information Management and began her career at Children’s Hospital of Michigan in Detroit.

Later, the couple moved to Florida to be closer to Barb’s father. But after his passing, Barb knew it was time to return home. She now lives in Shelbyville, where she owns her home and runs Comfort's Bakery—a business born from passion and perfected with years of experience and creativity.

What sets Barb apart isn’t just her baking skills—it’s her complete vision. From handcrafted candies to intricately designed cakes, Barb also uses her full woodworking shop to create customized cake stands, engraved toppers, and displays that elevate her desserts into edible art. Whether it’s acrylic, wood, aluminum, or edible paper flowers, Barb brings an unmatched attention to detail.

Her best advice? “Truly listen to the client. It’s not just about baking; it’s about interpreting their vision into something tangible—and delicious.” She prides herself on taking on only the projects where she can go all in, ensuring quality, care, and unforgettable taste every time.
