Animal Hospitals of the Lowcountry

Where did you grow up?  How long have you lived in the area?  Tell us about your family.

In 1953, Dr. Lanier Shuler, an Auburn graduate, initiated our family's veterinary legacy by opening a clinic in St. George, SC, catering to animals of all sizes. His son, Glenn Shuler, later joined the practice in 1984 after graduating from Georgia. Dr. J.O. Shuler, a Mt. Pleasant local and fellow Georgia graduate, established the town's first full-time veterinary hospital, Mt. Pleasant Animal Hospital, in 1959. J.O. was an innovator, introducing the area's first X-ray machine, which served both people and pets in emergencies. In 1968, Kenneth (K.C.) Shuler, another Georgia graduate, and J.O.'s nephew joined the practice. K.C. expanded our presence by creating the Shuler Veterinary Clinic in Mt. Pleasant in 1992. This move proved fortuitous, as both his sons, Kenneth Jr. and Kevin, along with their wives, became veterinarians.

Tell us about the events that led up to where you are now (i.e. education, career path).

Following Dr. K.C. Shuler's retirement in 2005, Drs. Kevin and Laura, both graduates of Tuskegee University, assumed leadership of both Mount Pleasant Animal Hospital and Shuler Veterinary Clinic. In the spring of 2005, Dr. Marian Shuler Holladay, a Georgia graduate and cousin, joined to oversee Shuler Veterinary Clinic. Our commitment to expansion persisted, leading to the opening of the new Mount Pleasant Animal Hospital in 2006, adjacent to the original location.

As our practices flourish, we eagerly welcome additional veterinarians into our family who share our values and dedication to serving our community.

Customer reviews
“Mount Pleasant Animal Hospital is the absolute best! I have a very anxious dog who gets super nervous at the vet. Their team always takes such good care of her and is so sweet and patient. The techs and veterinarians are intelligent and kind. Thank you for everything you do!”
- Avery B.

“We have had a great experience with Mount Pleasant Animal Hospital with our two dachshund puppies. We went in for an initial visit and they were very thorough in asking questions to make sure they provided the best care possible. They both got neutered there and were well cared for the day and we were well informed of their status throughout. The boys even got recovery suits post-surgery so that they didn’t have to wear cones! They have been great and we are glad to have them as our new vet!”
- Allison R.

“Such a great and friendly staff would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for a new vet!”
- Megan B.
