"Hey, are you going to 2nd Monday?" This is the phrase that Austin Blanton, Student Minister at First Baptist Church Mount Pleasant, wants our kids to be as comfortable with as "Hey mom, what's for dinner?"
What is 2nd Monday?
2nd Monday is a brand new fellowship breakfast for middle school kids!
When is 2nd Monday?
The second Monday of every month. 7:30am - 7:55am (Next one is December 11th)
Where is 2nd Monday?
In the NEWLY redesigned student center at First Baptist Church Mt. Pleasant, 681 McCants Drive.
How much does it cost?
Nothing!
What do I bring?
Nothing! Of course, you're welcome to bring your Bible- but don’t worry, it's not necessary.
How do I get in?
Kids riding bikes or walking can enter the doors off of Edwards Street (if before 7:30am they can go right in through the main church doors off McCants Drive). If you’re being dropped off in a car, you can enter the car rider line off Edwards Street.
Austin Blanton has a real heart for the youths in our community. He just celebrated two years of service here in Mt. Pleasant and you could feel the love pouring out of him as he described all the youth-centered programs available at the church. This brand new ministry, 2nd Monday, will be a place for middle school kids to gather once a month before school. Attendees will be sharing a breakfast (provided by the elders of the church), followed by a quick devotional, and then departing to begin their classes (ALL schools; public, private and homeschoolers are welcome.) Blanton says the community is a gift from God and it's creating a place for ALL youths to belong to. A place where they feel valued and loved.
Every day, every minute, our youths are being attacked by the negative world around them. FBC Mt P is providing a positive, safe place for them to be themselves. To find affirmation that other adults care for them, pray for them, and show them that they are welcome here. They are welcome at God's table. And hey- the nice warm meal is an added bonus! Just wait until you see the newly renovated youth space too....you'll immediately feel the passion they put into welcoming the kids. From the HUGE bean bag chairs, the casual living room settings, the cafe space with coffee and snack bar, to the shelves full of games and books. Then, during the other youth times they even have their own worship center! Stage, lights, music and more to create an environment perfect for worship and fellowship.
Feel free to come once, twice, or every month! Come alone or invite all your friends! It's not about the numbers for this church, it's about reaching out to the community and loving them well. Blanton says "Hey, there's a space for you, we want you here. I know you like breakfast, but I know the Lord loves you and desires for you to hear from Him"
Speaking of other youth activities, here are two other opportunities to gather:
1st & 3rd Sunday nights: High school only, from 6:00pm-7:30pm, in a living room setting. This is a time to go a little deeper into a topic. The current study: "The Book of Daniel. Where do you find Jesus in the Old Testament?" This is a small group of kids from varied high schools meeting for the purpose of spiritual growth. As this program also grows, and they know it will, they will create more small groups. Just come, no sign-ups or RSVPs are needed. There is no meal at this gathering, but there will be snacks! This is a great time for high school kids to connect with their peers, people who are going through the same life stages, like planning for college and the various challenges that being this age brings.
Every Wednesday night, at 5:30pm, kids from 6th grade through 12th grade enjoy a meal together. At 6:00pm the music starts, 6:30-7:25pm is group devotional, followed by small group breakouts for application time, then OPEN GYM!! This is a lighter night of fun and fellowship.
