Driven by Faith and Fascination
From software to spine surgery, David and Pia Fisher share a life built on curiosity and connection
David and Pia Fisher, along with their poodle-schnauzer Beni, have lived in Oak Creek for two years. Originally from Cleveland and Nicaragua, David and Pia have been married for thirty-six years after they met in the Bay Area of California. Eventually, they made their way to Oak Creek, where they fell in love with the beautiful neighborhood, noting the friendly neighbors and proximity to the trail.
David and Pia are empty nesters and have two grown children, Kaelee, who is working on her MBA, and Sarah, who is a lawyer. They still love to get everyone together, usually opting to head for the beach. They head down south to Nicaragua or Costa Rica for special celebrations every year.
Around town, the Fishers love exercising, supporting St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry, and attending local events. David has also been getting into amateur ham radio, and says it’s fun to have some kind of communication with the entire world. “We even think we heard the international space station at one point,” Pia says. “If anyone is interested in learning about ham radio, come talk to my husband!”
Another important part of the Fisher’s routine is getting together with their prayer groups. One is a prayer group that gathers together once a week to pray for the world, for their families, and whatever else needs praying. “Our favorite spot to go to on Wednesday’s is Stanley’s BBQ after we pray at the Square,” David and Pia share. The Fishers meet with their group in downtown Tyler every Wednesday at 5:30 for prayer, community, and fellowship.
For work, David has been at Microsoft for over thirty years as a product manager, and has a long-burning passion for technology, computers, and the Internet. Pia does a different type of coding, specifically medical coding for spine surgeons. “I am fascinated with how the human body works,” Pia says. “I love to read all my operative reports that come through detailing how we go into our bodies to fix things.”
At the end of the day, the Fishers are grateful for their faith, for their children and family, their only grandchild Troy, and for being in Texas and the amazing friends they’ve made here in Tyler. David and Pia love to take a stroll around Oak Creek almost every day with the hope of meeting more neighbors. “We always look forward to meeting people and getting to know our neighbors more,” they share.
