The Hill Family
When Kyle and Nicole Hill got married in May of 2014, their wedding gift to each other was a membership to Lake Quivira (https://www.lakequivira.org)! Both Kyle and Nicole had grown up with friends that lived at the lake. They knew they wanted their children to eventually have the same experiences they did, enjoying the lake life.
The Hills currently live in western Shawnee on 9 acres in Nicole's grandparents, Tom & Mickey Zarda's, a home which they recently renovated.
What are your family members' names and children's ages?
Kyle and Nicole Hill
Beau Hill is 4 1/2 years old and Krew Hill (who goes by Deuce because he is the 2nd boy lol) is 3 1/2 years old
*Kids are 1 year and 6 days apart!
Where do they go to school?
They both go to preschool at the LQ Academy.
Do you have pets?
We have 2 dogs, Tyson is our 12-year-old chihuahua. He was Kyle and I's first "baby". Fiesty as all get out...the kids know to leave T alone lol but he is also the most loyal and cuddly dog when he wants to be.
Marley is our little mini poodle and she is 8 years old. We brought Marley home as a birthday gift to Tyson....she is obsessed with him and everyone she meets. We joke that she is our forever puppy...she has the energy and excitement of a new puppy still and we love her so so much. The perfect pup for little kiddos to play with and carry around endlessly.
Where are you and your family originally from?
I, Nicole, grew up in Shawnee and have been here all of my life.
Kyle was on the Missouri side briefly, but then moved to Lenexa for most of his life until moving a few minutes away into Shawnee over 12 years ago!
What college/university did you attend?
Kyle | Rockhurst University (https://www.rockhurst.edu) and the University of Saint Mary (https://www.stmary.edu)
Nicole | University of Kansas (https://www.ku.edu) — Go Hawks!
What are your professions and where do you work?
Kyle owns a tech company, Tywoo Technologies, and together we own Hill Homes KC (https://www.hillhomeskc.com) where we design, renovate and buy/sell real estate.
How did you meet?
Kyle and I met via our ties to St. Thomas Aquinas High School (https://www.stasaints.net) where we both graduated from. He was coaching football there and had my brother on his team. I had just gone off to college but was always back for his games and we connected through that....so you could say we are a football "fam" for many reasons!
What are the kids doing?
Both boys have been playing tennis and taking swim lessons at The Q - Golf is next on the agenda for them as well. They also just started t-ball this past year and will soon begin Taekwondo (Beau) and Ice Hockey (Krew)!
Do you have any family traditions?
We love hosting our large family gatherings, whether that be for big holidays like Easter and Christmas where there may be 40+ people over or just your occasional Sunday/weekday dinner out on our back deck! Sunday Mass at St. Joseph Catholic Parish (https://stjoeshawnee.org) with brunch to follow is also something we truly look forward to! With both having large families in and out of town, most of our traditions revolve around family gatherings.
Activities/Hobbies:
We enjoy watching our Chiefs play, whether that be at home or taking our boys to Arrowhead to watch live...my grandpa has had season tickets for over 55 years and we are lucky enough to still be in attendance with him and his closest friends in section 105!
HUGE Jayhawk fans over here as well, so this last year has been extra special.
I would have to say our favorite thing to do though overall as a family, is head to our lake home in the Ozarks. Our boys love the water and boating, so we are looking forward to another summer at the lake soon!
Favorite places to eat and meet?
We love supporting locals and have several coffee dates/work meet-ups at McLain's (https://www.mclainskc.com), love watching sporting events at Johnny's Tavern (https://johnnystavern.com)...but also love any opportunity we get to have a date night at Ragazza (https://www.ragazzakc.com)!
What do you like to do for fun or to relax?
We enjoy entertaining our friends and family or if we need some relaxing time (if that is even a thing with a 3 and 4-year-old), we head to the lake!
Favorite Vacation Destination or family trip?
The obvious answer, our own lake home - but last year we were able to take the kiddos to Mexico and we had the best time on the beach!
How are you involved in the community?
Our boys currently attend preschool at LQ Academy and attended Children's Day Out before. We have lots of friends on and off of the lake and summers have to be a favorite - but the boys would say seeing Santa in the clubhouse is the BEST!
We have also had the honor to participate in the Cottages to Castles weekend where our business, Hill Homes KC helped decorate a home on the tour.
What is your favorite part about being a part of Lake Quivira?
We live off the lake but have to say that the community is so close-knit and always welcoming.
What is your favorite thing about Stroll?
Love the different businesses you all help support (especially the teens!) and the fact that we get to know those around us even more!
Is there anything else interesting we should know about you?
We worked with Tamara Day and our home will be featured on Bargain Mansions (https://www.hgtv.com/shows/bargain-mansions)!
What would you tell someone who just moved into the neighborhood?
Get involved, stop by the clubhouse for dinner and meet people, don't be afraid to ask for help or how to get involved!
