Welcoming a Beautiful Spring….

Spring is one of my favorite months to enjoy every aspect of gardening. If you’re planning a
new garden, I suggest scheduling an onsite consultation to begin the landscape design process. This is an exciting time to put your dreams into action!

Charleston is one of the most beautiful cities in the world so give yourself permission to create
your own little special garden spaces that bring you beauty, peace and happiness so that you
can jump off the merry-go-round of the world and just ‘be’.

Creating a garden includes using repetitive patterns, textures, fragrances, forms and color
palettes that connect the indoor spaces to the outdoor spaces for a seamless effect. A garden
softens and enhances the architecture, lay of the land and lifestyle. I suggest beginning with the
perimeter lines owning every inch of their property and working inwards. Typically, privacy
is a very important element and then tiering with ornamental trees and shrubs for year-round
interests.

Functional items are the most important for consideration including grading, drainage,
irrigation, garden mix soil, plant-specific fertilizers, premium mulch and intimate lighting. Also,
consideration of the strategic placement of hardscapes like fencing, custom gates, meandering
pathways, patios, firepits, pools, outdoor kitchens, play areas and pet areas that reflect your
lifestyle.

We are fortunate here in Charleston to have wonderful weather the majority of the year so
including a Pool Cabana, Garden Office, Gazebo, Shed or Greenhouse will offer places of
enjoyment as well.

Placing Art in the Garden includes Fabulous Water Fountains or Koi Ponds, Oversized Planters with Thrillers, Seasonal Fillers, Spillers, and Unique Statuaries. Also, special consideration in the placement of quality Outdoor Furniture like dining tables/chairs, perhaps a fabulous Bench painted in a pop of color and intimate seating with cocktail tables beckon you outdoors.

Most people enjoy bird watching so including Bird Baths and Bird Houses are a must. Also,
most Perennial/Annual beds attract pollinators like hummingbirds, butterflies and bees to the
garden and they bring wonderful energy and a sense of magic into the garden. These also offer
a cutting garden for creating and enjoying beautiful and interesting bouquets indoors.

Every garden and client is unique so being mindful of the spirit of the space will make your
garden extraordinary and a beautiful place to enjoy every day of the year.
