Growing up in Coldstream has given 14-year-old Matthew Richardson a strong foundation rooted in faith, family, and community. 

A lifelong resident, Matthew has spent all 14 years calling the neighborhood home alongside his parents, Dave and Laurie, his sisters, Audrey and Nora, and the family's 13-year-old Norfolk Terrier.

This fall, Matthew begins an exciting new chapter as a freshman at Archbishop McNicholas High School, where he's looking forward to challenging himself academically, making new friends, and continuing to pursue the activities he enjoys most.

"I think the academics are great, the students are great, and the sports are good for making new connections," Matthew says.

Golf has become one of Matthew's greatest passions. Whether he's on the course with family and friends or watching the pros compete, the game has taught him patience, discipline, and the importance of always striving to improve.

While golf is a favorite pastime, Matthew has another dream that's already taking shape.

Inspired by his grandfather, Matthew hopes to one day become a sports broadcaster. He's already involved in sports broadcasting at McNicholas and is excited to continue developing his skills behind the microphone.

"I want to be a sports broadcaster like my grandfather was," he shares. "I'm doing sports broadcasting in high school and hope to become great at it and make a future doing that job."

When asked what brings him the most happiness, Matthew's answer reflects the values that guide his life.

"Praying to God and playing golf are my two favorite things to do."

Family is also at the heart of many of Matthew's favorite memories. Every year, the Richardson family travels to Albany, New York, to visit relatives—a tradition he looks forward to all year long.

One of his proudest accomplishments is winning back-to-back basketball championships in seventh and eighth grade alongside his friends, an experience he says he'll never forget.

And when it comes to heroes, Matthew doesn't have to look very far.

"My mom and dad are my heroes. They have shaped me into the person I've become, and they are my role models for life."

Like many young athletes, Matthew still has one big dream that makes him smile.

"To make it to the NBA."

Whether his future leads him to the golf course, behind a broadcast desk, or somewhere entirely unexpected, one thing is certain: Matthew is a young man with a strong character, a caring heart, and a bright future ahead.
