African Safari

I went to Africa just as countries were beginning to open up after COVID. There were only three of us on this safari through Kenya and a bit of Tanzania. We were not allowed to visit villages or interact with people. In the three weeks that we were touring, we saw only one other vehicle out on the Serengeti.

The great migration was just beginning, and about one million wildebeest had already gathered. Fun fact: According to our guide, wildebeest are so directionally challenged that zebras travel with them so they don’t get lost.

The trip began in Johannesburg. We had a delightful journey through wine country and then we went to Lewa, a black rhino conservation area. Most of our time was spent on the Serengeti, with a short side trip into Tanzania.

If you ever get a chance, Go!
