Fostering Every Child’s Curiosity
Discovery Montessori School is a customized experience based on your child’s interests.
Dropping your child off at preschool for the first time can be emotional for both parents and children. When a school provides a loving environment, experienced teachers and a peaceful, home-like atmosphere, that transition becomes much easier.
Discovery Montessori School is a popular year-round preschool serving children ages 1–6. Founded by Brookes Parrish and Cara Gregory in 2015 and located just minutes from Biltmore Park, the school focuses on meeting each child where they are and nurturing a lifelong love of learning.
“We chose the name Discovery because education should be about questioning, exploring and following a child’s natural curiosity,” Brookes says. “Every child learns differently, and our job is to support their development at their own pace.”
At Discovery Montessori, learning happens through hands-on experiences that invite children to explore, create and collaborate. The child-centered curriculum integrates language, math, science, art and social development while encouraging independence and confidence.
Class sizes are intentionally small so teachers can give each child individualized attention. Instead of rotating children through multiple classrooms, Discovery keeps consistent environments where children feel secure and supported as they grow.
“We honor what each child brings into the classroom: their interests, abilities and personality,” Brookes says.
The classrooms themselves are thoughtfully designed, prepared environments, a key Montessori principle. Soft lighting, natural materials and carefully chosen learning tools help inspire curiosity and independence.
Children spend time outdoors tending the garden, exploring the playground and engaging in practical activities like baking, cooking or preparing tea. Discovery Montessori’s mission is to nurture compassionate, community-minded students who are intrinsically motivated to learn. Teachers encourage children to try new things, practice skills and even make mistakes, because that’s where real learning happens.
“When kids aren’t allowed to fail, they don’t learn resilience,” Brookes says. “We encourage them to keep trying and discovering what they’re capable of.”
Strong relationships are at the heart of the school. Teachers know every child, not just those in their classroom, and the school invests heavily in staff development, including a seven-month Montessori training program for teachers who are new to the philosophy.
“We truly value our teachers,” Brookes says. “It’s important work, and they are incredibly dedicated.”
Discovery Montessori also works to build a close community among families, hosting events like a fall festival and spring celebration so parents and children can connect outside the classroom.
“Our goal is for the school to feel like a home away from home,” Brookes says.
Discovery Montessori School offers year-round programs with full-day and extended-day options for families.
