Riddle Tractor - More Than Just Equipment
For more than four decades, Riddle Tractor has been a trusted name across the region, recognized not only for quality equipment, but for the kind of personal service that builds loyalty generation after generation. Founded in 1979, the family-owned business continues to benefit from the insight and leadership of Gene Riddle, one of the original founders, who remains actively involved today. That legacy now carries forward under the leadership of Michael and Anna Mitchell, who are committed to the same core values that built the company: faith, hard work, integrity, and service to the community.
Both Davie County natives and high school sweethearts, Michael and Anna graduated from Davie County High School in 1999 before continuing their education at North Carolina State University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After college, Michael served in the United States Marine Corps, a career that took the couple and their growing family to several locations before ultimately bringing them back home in 2015. Today, Michael continues his service in the Marine Corps Reserve, while Anna serves as Director of Pharmacy for the Novant Health Cancer Institute. Together, they are raising four children and are active members at their church, Calvary West.
Riddle Tractor’s roots in the community run deep. Established by Lawrence, Vance, and Gene Riddle, the company began as a farm equipment dealership and was among the first in the area to carry Kubota tractors. Under their leadership, the business steadily expanded into mowers and landscaping equipment, earning national recognition as a top Scag Power Equipment dealer along the way.
In 2018, following the unexpected passing of Vance, Anna’s father, Michael and Anna stepped in to help lead the business alongside Gene. What was initially intended as a temporary measure soon became a full-time commitment to preserving and growing the family legacy. Today, they remain focused on a clear and simple mission: to provide premium equipment supported by exceptional service, honest guidance, and long-term customer support.
Riddle Tractor serves residential, commercial, and government customers with a broad range of equipment, including tractors, mowers, utility vehicles, and handheld power tools. The dealership proudly carries trusted brands such as Kubota, Scag Power Equipment, Stihl, Echo, Walker, and Altoz mowers. What truly sets the company apart, however, is what happens after the sale. With a fully stocked parts department and an experienced service team, Riddle Tractor is committed to helping customers maintain and maximize the lifespan of their equipment.
That relationship-first approach is something customers quickly notice.
“Excellent place with a welcoming and down home vibe! Great service!!” shared customer Clarence N.
Another longtime customer, Matt M., echoed that sentiment: “Great company with extremely caring staff. I have not had a single issue or concern.”
Beyond the business itself, Riddle Tractor is deeply invested in the surrounding community. The company regularly supports local school athletics and charitable efforts, including equipment donations. Employees often participate in these initiatives as well, reflecting a culture rooted in service. Following Hurricane Helene, the company provided chainsaws to volunteers assisting with cleanup efforts. They are also launching an internship program with Davie County High School to give students early exposure to careers in sales, service, and operations.
Looking ahead, the Mitchells are focused on sustainable growth while continuing to enhance the customer experience. Recent renovations have upgraded the showroom and service areas, and future plans include facility expansion, increased service capacity, and continued investment in employee training and development.
Michael often shares advice that reflects the company’s philosophy: when purchasing equipment, think beyond the initial price. Long-term value, service, and support matter; having a trusted local partner can make all the difference.
At its heart, Riddle Tractor is about more than equipment. It’s about relationships, reliability, and standing behind customers long after the sale. For the Riddle and Mitchell families, and for the employees who serve customers each day, the goal has always been the same: treat people right and build something that lasts.
