Meet the Buehlers!

Bethany and Jennifer in vacation mode.

Jennifer and Stephen Buehler have spent most of their adult lives in New York City. After spending time working for major corporations, they both decided to transition to being their own boss and made the move to Nashville. They keep busy running two businesses and being new parents to their daughter Bethany. After spending years in one of the largest cities in the world, they find comfort and peace at their home in Belle Meade.

How long have you lived in the Belle Meade area?
We moved to the Belle Meade Highlands neighborhood in 2021. We love everything about the area. Stephen is originally from Starkville, MS, and I am from Harrisonburg, VA. However, we spent much of our adult lives in New York City.

Do you have any pets?
We have a corgi-chihuahua mix named Arthur. You likely have seen us walking him around the neighborhood. He loves getting the “zoomies” in our fenced-in backyard and visiting the Belle Meade Starbucks for a “puppuccino.”

What college/university did you attend?
Stephen attended Mississippi State University for undergrad and Northwestern for business school. I attended Virginia Tech for undergrad and NYU and UC Berkeley for graduate school.

What are your profession(s), and where do you work?
After working for large companies in NYC, we both decided to transition to entrepreneurship here in Nashville. Stephen is the founder of an investment firm (Astra Ventures) that spans private equity, venture investing and a hedge fund strategy. I am an adult and geriatric nurse practitioner who owns an aesthetic medicine practice called SLK Clinic (pronounced “silk”) located in the Nations. SLK focuses on providing excellence in skin rejuvenation, body contouring, regenerative medicine, and graceful aging.

What are your favorite restaurants?
Nashville has really wonderful food, and we have lots of favorite spots. But we would rank Wine 360 Bistro near the top. Von El Rod’s is a fun spot to go with friends. And Stephen takes me to Sperry’s for my birthday each year. We really love the welcoming atmosphere of these restaurants.

What do you like to do for fun or to relax?
Stephen and I both find exercise to be a great way to unwind. I love taking group exercise classes (right now, Orangetheory is a favorite). Stephen prefers a more casual approach of running outside or going to the gym. He probably likes to listen to podcasts more than he actually exercises. But hey, it works for him!

Do you have a favorite vacation destination?
We love to travel and have been very fortunate to visit some amazing places. But our favorite part of the world is the South of France. It is the most wonderful combination of natural beauty, welcoming culture, and amazing food. We even got married there. This summer, we took our daughter back to the church where we had our ceremony. It was special to have her at the place where we officially started our family.

Favorite family trip?
Most people may not know that by heritage, I am half Filipino. My mother was born and raised in the Philippines and I am very close with my family there. In fact, we are visiting them this Christmas. I absolutely love the Philippines as well, especially the coral reefs and snorkeling.

What’s your favorite piece of Nashville history?
This is very much recent history, but we’d say the first Nashville FC major league soccer game. We are both soccer fans. So it was really exciting to attend the first-ever MLS game in Nashville. We try to attend as many games as we can. And we look forward to sharing that experience with Bethany as she gets older.

How are you involved in the community?
We are active with a nonprofit called Humanity & Hope United that has a group of volunteers in the Nashville area. The mission of Humanity & Hope is to assist underserved communities in remote parts of Honduras by helping them build sustainable businesses. Stephen has traveled to Honduras several times to meet and partner with the local communities that Humanity & Hope serves. It is a wonderful cause and a remarkable team that executes the mission.

What is your favorite part about living in the neighborhood?
We love the walkability of the neighborhood. You’ll see us out walking most days of the week. And we also love that Cheekwood is so convenient. We especially enjoy their Thursday Night Out events as a way to meet our neighbors.

What is your favorite thing about Stroll Belle Meade?
Our favorite aspect of Stroll Belle Meade is learning about one of the families via a profile like this one. Everyone has such a unique story to tell. And Stroll does a great job as a medium for that story to unfold.

What would you tell someone who just moved into the neighborhood about Belle Meade and about this publication?
I would tell that person that Stroll has some great small business sponsors. We love supporting our neighbors and their local businesses. We found our family photographer in the pages of Stroll Belle Meade.
