Ruby’s Story:
Too Loved to Be Left Behind
Hi neighbors! My name is Ruby, and I’m a ten-year-old Australian Labradoodle. I’ll be celebrating my big birthday in September, though if you ask me, I still feel like a puppy. I came into my family’s life when their boys were just six and eight years old. They needed a dog who wouldn’t cause sneezes or itchy eyes, so they looked for a hypoallergenic breed, and lucky for me, they landed on labradoodles. Out of all the names on their list, Ruby seemed to fit me best. I’ve been answering to it ever since.
My family has been part of this neighborhood for a long time. They first moved here in 2007, and then into our current house in 2016. They originally came for the schools but stayed because of the wonderful friends and strong sense of community. That’s something I love most is people. I’ll be honest, I don’t always love other dogs getting too close, but people? Oh, I adore them. I think I’m one of you, to be honest.
I’ve got a few tricks up my paw, too. When I was a pup, I learned hand signals like “sit” and “stay.” My favorite reward, though, isn’t a bone or a biscuit, it’s fruit! Bananas and blueberries make my tail wag every time.
Some of my best memories are simply being snuggled. My family actually fights over who gets to sit next to me on the couch. It makes me feel pretty special. I love walks around the neighborhood, sniffing every corner, and sometimes I get to visit my grandma and stroll her park. But truthfully, my favorite place is anywhere my family is. I never like being left behind.
At the end of the day, I’m just happy to be part of this family and neighborhood. I hope to see you on a walk soon (just don’t be offended if I choose your hand over your pup’s paw!).
