For years, Montgomery has lacked a sophisticated gathering place where guests can have a cigar and a nice glass of whiskey or a cocktail. However, when 23 Court opened its doors at the end of last year, the city finally had a place for refined ladies and gentlemen to relax, entertain, and conduct business, all in a highly cultured atmosphere found nowhere else in the River Region.

 

23 Court has something for everyone. For cigar enthusiasts, 23 Court boasts a walk-in humidor with a vast selection of fine cigars. They also offer one of the greatest collections of whiskey in the entire state, as well as other liquors, such as gin, vodka, and tequila. And if fresh, hand-crafted cocktails are more your style, they have those as well. Additionally, they have several private spaces for events, such as birthday parties, bachelor parties, and wedding receptions.

 

The vision for 23 Court came from owner Dr. Pat Ryan. Knowing of the need for a high-end whiskey and cigar bar in the area, he first found the perfect downtown location on Court Street. He then enlisted local architect John Foshee to turn his dream into a reality. The renovation took two years, and they spared no expense, but it was well worth it because the elegant space they created could easily be at home in New York City, Chicago, or other metropolitan area.

 

The general manager of 23 Court is Montgomery native Justin Owens who came with a tremendous amount of experience in the service industry. With a focus on excellent customer service, his desire is always for his guests to leave happier than when they came in. “My goal is to always be able to offer our guests something new and different, exceed expectations, and provide a memorable experience," he says.

Justin and Dr. Ryan agree that it’s rewarding to be part of the revitalization of the downtown area. “I’m so excited to see it coming back to what it should have been many years ago,” says Dr. Ryan. “It’s good for us. It’s good for the city. It’s good for the people who come here to visit our historic places.”
