Meet The Deatherage Family
For the Deatherage family, Wolf Ranch is more than a neighborhood, it’s where family, faith, and community come together.
When the Deatherage family moved to Wolf Ranch in 2023, they were looking for connection and found it in abundance. Whether they’re cheering at games, volunteering, or exploring Georgetown Square, they love being part of a neighborhood that feels like family. For Andrew, Joy, and their daughters Abby and Hannah, life in Georgetown has been full of community connections, scenic walks, and plenty of adventures with their Australian Shepherd, Ranger.
The Deatherages moved from Austin seeking a neighborhood that offered a strong sense of community, beautiful green spaces, and an easy connection to the historic Georgetown Square. They quickly found all of that and more in Wolf Ranch. “We love the pools, gym, and pickleball courts, but most of all, we love our neighbors,” Joy says with a smile.
Joy is a native Texan who grew up in a small town in Central Texas. Her great-grandparents established a ranch in San Saba County more than 120 years ago, a place where she spent much of her childhood learning to care for the land and livestock. The ranch remains in her family today, and she treasures the opportunity to share those same experiences with her daughters. After graduating from Texas A&M University with a degree in International Marketing, Joy began her career at Dell. Just two weeks after graduation, she moved to Austin and started working in the fast-paced world of tech.
Andrew’s story began in Southern California, where he was born as the third of four boys. When he was a toddler, his family fulfilled a dream and moved to Hawaii, where they immersed themselves in the local culture. Like many in his family before him, Andrew attended Pepperdine University, earning a degree in Spanish. After graduation, he followed one of his brothers to Austin and began working at Dell, the same company where his future wife was just starting her career.
The two met in 1999 at Dell and instantly clicked. They married in March of 2001 and soon after moved to Nashville to help open Dell’s new offices there. After two years, they returned to Austin to start their family. Joy worked at Dell for seven years before stepping into her favorite role yet, stay-at-home mom and volunteer enthusiast. Andrew continues to work in tech sales, a career that allows him to blend his people skills with his love of technology.
Family has always been the center of their world, and both daughters are thriving. Abby, now 20, is a junior at Abilene Christian University, majoring in Marketing and Management. She already has an impressive list of accomplishments under her belt, serving as Vice President of the American Marketing Association, interning with the Community Foundation of Abilene, and working as a Professional Development Coach for marketing students. She’s also part of the Kendra Scott Gem college ambassador program and is an active member of her sorority.
Hannah, age 17, is a senior at East View High School. She plays varsity volleyball and participates in the GISD Culinary Arts program. Her dedication extends beyond sports and academics as she also belongs to the National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and Family, Career and Community Leaders of America. Hannah is an active member of the Hill Country Bible Church student ministry, a place that has been important to the family since the girls were in elementary school.
When Abby and Hannah are not busy with school or sports, they enjoy cooking, baking, shopping, and spending time with friends. Both girls have even started their own neighborhood business, Sister Sitters, offering babysitting and pet-sitting services in Wolf Ranch. They completed Red Cross Babysitting training and earned pediatric CPR certification, credentials their mom especially values. “Those were things I looked for when hiring babysitters years ago,” Joy says.
Ranger, the family’s six-year-old red tricolor Australian Shepherd, completes the family dynamic. True to his working breed, Ranger thrives on activity. He loves long walks around the neighborhood, snuggling on the couch, and announcing every doorbell ring. He has the energy of a herding dog but the heart of a family member who just wants to be close to his people.
When it comes to spending time together, the Deatherages love to travel and explore new places. Joy lights up when describing their recent trip to Europe. Abby studied abroad in Oxford, England last summer, where she took classes in International Business and Bible studies. Her coursework included visits to historic companies in Oxford and London, as well as attending services in breathtaking cathedrals. When the program ended, the family joined her for an unforgettable trip through London and Paris. “The people, culture, traditions, art, history, food, and architecture truly make those cities magnificent,” Joy says.
Closer to home, the Deatherages enjoy spending weekends exploring Georgetown’s historic Square. They love the local boutiques, restaurants, and community events that bring the area to life. Market Days, the Red Poppy Festival, and holiday celebrations are some of their favorites. “The blend of history, arts, and outdoor activities makes the Georgetown Square truly one of a kind,” Joy says.
When asked what they love most about Wolf Ranch, the answer comes easily. The family appreciates the diversity, the sense of belonging, and the endless opportunities for connection. The neighborhood’s social events, amenities, and schools have been wonderful, but the real treasure has been the people who have become friends and extended family. “We love where we live for many reasons, but what we love most are our neighbors,” Joy says.
From ranch roots in San Saba County to island beginnings in Hawaii, the Deatherage family’s journey has taken them across states and even continents. Yet here in Wolf Ranch, they’ve found what matters most, a community that feels like home. Whether they’re cheering on the volleyball team, walking Ranger through the trails, or planning their next family adventure, one thing is certain: the Deatherages embody the heart and spirit of Wolf Ranch life.
