The Armstrong Family: Rooted in Winfield, Soaring to New Heights
For 25 years, Jeff and Stefanie Armstrong have resided at Olympia Hill Drive in Winfield. Along with their son, Parker, they have created a life focused on family, community, and adventure. The Armstrong family includes Bella and Baisley, a 14-year-old and a 2-year-old Maltese.
Jeff graduated from Winfield High School in 1988 and earned his Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from West Virginia State University in 1993. Stefanie graduated from Vinson High School in 1994. In 1998, she completed her degree at Marshall University, where she received a Bachelor of Business Administration and was recognized as an Outstanding Management graduate.
Stefanie shared, “Jeff and I met on a blind date. He had a motorcycle, and I wanted to ride it, so a mutual friend introduced us.” The couple married on August 3, 1996, at Cross Lanes Baptist Church.
Jeff is the co-owner and president of Chem Valley Machine, a family business founded by his grandfather, Dan Armstrong, in 1955. The company is a full-service machine shop specializing in precision metalwork and serving various industries. Jeff has held the position of CEO for over 30 years.
Stefanie is a 12-year survivor of Triple Negative Breast Cancer and a former stay-at-home mom. She discovered her passion for travel planning and has been working as an independent travel advisor at Destinations by Design since 2017. In 2019, she became a partner with Michele Cartwright, who founded the company in 2013 and is also a co-owner. Destinations by Design currently has home offices in South Carolina, West Virginia, and Tennessee. Creating travel experiences for lasting memories is precisely what Stefanie and the Destinations by Design team enjoy doing.
Their son, Parker, a 2023 graduate of Teays Valley Christian School, is currently a junior at Marshall University’s Division of Aviation, where he is pursuing a Bachelor of Science and working as an inbound student relations coordinator at Bill Noe Flight School. Additionally, Parker serves as a track coach for Teays Valley Christian School.
The Armstrong family has deep roots in Winfield, with Jeff’s family having resided in the area since the 1970s. Originally from Huntington, Stefanie has a historical connection to West Virginia’s past, as she is a descendant of the notorious Devil Anse Hatfield from the Hatfield-McCoy feud. Despite their long-standing ties, they take joy in watching their neighborhood evolve. “At one time, Parker was the only child in our neighborhood,” Stefanie shared with Stroll Winfield, “but now there are so many kids, and we love seeing them grow. Everyone here supports one another, and it’s a wonderful, family-oriented community.”
The Armstrong family's love for adventure and exploration is a cornerstone of their family life. While Jeff has participated in four Ironman races and enjoys golfing and pickleball, Stefanie takes pleasure in traveling, gardening, and spending time outdoors. Parker, an avid photographer and volleyball official, has discovered his passion for aviation. “Our family holiday tradition revolves around travel,” Stefanie said. “For Thanksgiving, we almost always take a cruise—it’s our way of creating lasting memories together.”
When they aren’t traveling, the family, whose favorite destination is St. Lucia, remains active in the community. They attend Winfield Baptist Church and Sleepy Hollow Country Club, and both their family and businesses support local sports teams, organizations, churches, and schools. As passionate fans of Marshall University football, they make it a point to cheer for the Herd every season.
Even with their busy schedules, the Armstrong family always makes time for family dinners at Sleepy Hollow Country Club, enjoying the simple pleasure of good food and quality time together. Whether they are embarking on their next adventure or giving back to the community they cherish, the Armstrong family continues to embody the spirit of Winfield—deeply rooted yet always soaring to new heights.
