Finding Home in Wildhorse

The Harris family reflects on their first year in the neighborhood and the adventures that shaped their journey there.

The Harris family may be just one year into life in their Wildhorse home, but they’ve been busy creating a space that reflects their love of family, activity, and time spent both exploring and unwinding.

St. Louis natives with roots in Town & Country and Ballwin, Michael and Sophia Harris were drawn to Wildhorse for its rare balance of community and privacy. Their home checked every box: family-friendly, quiet and tucked against common ground that offers a sense of seclusion while still being close to everything St. Louis County has to offer. It’s the kind of setting that invites both calm mornings and lively evenings.

At the center of it all is their young son, Micah (2), whose current passions include cars (any and all of them). Whether he’s watching Cars or playing with his favorite toys, he keeps the household active. The family’s dog, Mira, a five-year-old lab-husky mix, adds to the fun. And with baby #2 on the way, their home is about to get even livelier!

Michael, who works in construction and entrepreneurship, enjoys staying active with gym time and sports, while Sophia gravitates toward the outdoors, reading, and keeping up with their on-the-go family life. Together, they prioritize shared experiences, from enjoying a laid-back Sunday to traveling the world.

And travel they do! From Italy to Florida to Kauai, the Harrises love discovering new places. One unforgettable trip took them through Greece, Egypt, and Jordan, where a street vendor in Egypt jokingly offered 1,000 camels for Sophia. Michael’s quick-witted response? “No, but I’d do it for one million.” When the man agreed, their tour guide quickly stepped in to defuse the situation.

Closer to home, their favorite traditions are simpler but just as meaningful, pizza and movie nights on Fridays, grilling meals from The Smoke House, or relaxing on the back porch. After moving five times in five years, the Harris family is especially appreciative of the sense of stability they’ve found in Wildhorse.

For the Harrises, home is about being together, whether they’re across the globe or right in their own backyard.
