Meet the Flathouse Family

Family member names:
Scott, Kara, Emma, Sophie, Arrie
How long have you lived in the neighborhood and what is your favorite part about living here? We have lived in Weston Lakes since May of 2011.  Living on the Oxbow is absolutely the best because we have hit the perfect trifecta: amazing neighbors, incredible wildlife outside our back door, and of course the legendary Halloween celebration!
Professions:
Scott is an Operations Manager for SK Enmove, and Kara is a published author and neighborhood pet sitter.
Do you have any family traditions?
Dinner has always been our sacred family time. When our children were growing up, we made it a point to gather around the table every evening. Now, whenever we are all together, we still instinctively flock to the kitchen to create our favorite dishes. It’s where stories are shared, and lots of laughter ensues.
Do you have any pets?
We have a pretentious basset hound, Charlotte. Where are you originally from?  Scott grew up in Austin, and Kara has lived in several places during her childhood, including Wisconsin, Kentucky, Virginia, Georgia, Florida, and Dallas. We moved to Weston Lakes as a family from the Texas panhandle.
What do you like to do to relax?
Kara is an avid reader, and Scott doesn’t understand the question.
How are you involved in the community?
Scott volunteers time for photography for Stroll Magazine, and Kara has become a local resource for wildlife rescue, particularly after Hurricanes Harvey and Beryl.
Tell Us Your Family’s Favorite:
Activities/Hobbies:
Scott has been involved in the triathlon and endurance sport community through his photography for several years, working for the Chevron Houston Marathon, the Austin Marathon, IRONMAN triathlons, and many local events.  Kara enjoys reading, gardening, and world travel.
Hangout spot:
Our favorite place is our own back yard, but our children also enjoy the pickleball courts in Riverwood Park.
Restaurants and Take Out:
We love Anthonie’s, Little V’s, Ginger Thai, Molina’s, and Local Table. For a special breakfast treat we will get the breakfast burritos at La Balance. Our go-to pizza place is Pepperoni’s.
Family dinner:
When the weather cools off, Scott likes to make a big pot of chili while Kara makes cornbread and the daughters are in charge of making something chocolate for desert.
Vacation destination
Our favorite place to vacation was 30A before it got too popular. Our older daughters attended school in Savannah, and we always loved visiting them and enjoying that historic area.
Sports teams:
Astros and Texans, of course!  We are also big fans of AFC Richmond (Go Greyhounds!).
Tv show/movie:
Ted Lasso, Harry Potter, Star Wars, Marvel Movies (the early ones).
Music:
Kara and the girls are Swifties, while Scott leans more towards country music.
