Precious Pets

If you’ve ever spotted a curly-haired cutie trotting through Savannah Quarters with joyful purpose and a bounce in her step, chances are you’ve met Sable, the Bernedoodle beauty who’s as sweet as she is spunky.

Sable is the beloved furry family member of Ben and Deb Loesche, who traded Wisconsin winters for our peaceful southern charm about a year and a half ago. They quickly fell in love with the tranquil setting, welcoming neighbors, and top-notch amenities that make Westbrook such a special place to call home.

But let’s talk about the real star of this story: Sable. At just under two years old, this female Bernedoodle is a delightful blend of brains, playfulness, and serious snuggles. If you’re not familiar with Bernedoodles, think of them as the Goldilocks of dogs, not too big, not too hairy, but just right with the smarts of a Poodle and the loyal, laid-back vibes of a Bernese Mountain Dog. In fact, that’s exactly why the Loesches chose her. After admiring the massive (and massively shedding) Bernese next door, they did their research and found their perfect fit in Sable, a pup with all the looks and love, minus the mountain of fur.

Her name? A nod to generations of summertime memories. “Sable” comes from Big Sable Point Lighthouse in Ludington, Michigan—a cherished family vacation spot where the Loesches and their extended crew spent summers camping, hiking, tubing, and soaking up life’s simplest pleasures on the shores of Lake Michigan. What better tribute than naming their new adventure buddy after a place so close to their hearts?

Sable’s personality is part goofball, part shadow—what the Loesches lovingly call a “Velcro dog.” Wherever the family is, you’ll find her loyally tagging along. She’s always up for a game of catch with her favorite stuffed animals or a frozen Kong packed with yogurt (doggy bliss in snack form!).

While she’s traded Wisconsin blizzards for Georgia sunshine, Sable still swoons over a good snowfall. When the rare flakes fell last winter, she was in her element—bounding, digging, and rolling around like it was her birthday and Christmas combined. She only came inside when her paws looked more like snowballs than feet.

Around the neighborhood, Sable is a bit of a social butterfly. She’s never met a stranger on her walks and has formed plenty of four-legged friendships along the way. Whether she’s mingling with new pups or making eye contact that says, “Yes, I’m adorable. Let’s play,” Sable is one of Westbrook’s most lovable residents.
So, if you see Sable and the Loesches out and about, be sure to wave—or better yet, say hi! (Sable insists on it.) She may just become your newest walking buddy or at the very least, leave you with a smile that lasts the whole day.
