Bringing Nature to Life in Watercolor: Meet Artist Lynn Brennan

Westbrook artist, Lynn Brennan's work radiates a calm creativity that is truly remarkable. A resident of Westbrook since 2021, Lynn has brought a vibrant touch of color and inspiration to our community, one brushstroke at a time.
Born in Springfield, Illinois, Lynn has lived a life full of movement—25 moves, to be exact—with her husband Steve and their adult son Sean now living in Columbia, SC. Yet with each new location, her love of art has remained constant. She began drawing at the age of 5 and has been refining her craft ever since.
Today, Lynn is a self-taught watercolor artist whose work leans into realism, especially inspired by the natural world. Her favorite subjects include graceful herons, delicate dragonflies, vibrant florals, and serene landscapes. Her pieces are not just beautiful—they’re one-of-a-kind. She doesn’t work with prints, so every piece she creates is a unique expression of color, movement, and emotion. “When I give an original painting to a friend or client, it means a lot to me,” Lynn shares. “Especially when they tell me it’s exactly what they hoped for.”
In retirement, Lynn paints nearly every day, often experimenting with new techniques and ideas. While she occasionally works from photographs or memory, her main inspiration is the world around her—and the joy of bringing a client’s vision to life.
Locally, Lynn exhibits at the SOBA Gallery in Bluffton and participates in Westbrook and Savannah Quarters art events, including the upcoming Art & Craft show on September 20. If you’re lucky, you may even catch a glimpse of her latest creations at a Fairways clubhouse show.
To support or purchase her work, Lynn welcomes neighbors to visit her home studio and browse her current collection. Whether you’re a long-time art lover or just discovering the beauty of watercolor, Lynn’s art is a wonderful reminder of the creativity thriving right here in Westbrook.
