A Tribute and a Treasure: Rory Brings Joy to the Carpenters’ Home

After years of enduring Indiana winters, Teresa and Mike Carpenter were ready for a change. Drawn by the warm weather, inviting atmosphere, and rich history of coastal Georgia, they chose Pooler as their new home—close enough to Savannah for regular adventures and only a short drive from Tybee Island. Since settling in, they’ve embraced the community and all it offers. And one family member who has settled in just as warmly is their nine-year-old goldendoodle, Rory.

A perfect blend of his parent breeds, Rory effortlessly shows off his dual heritage. He has the playful mischief of a poodle—known to quietly sneak a snack or surprise his humans with antics—and the gentle, easygoing nature of a golden retriever, especially when toddlers or neighborhood cats are involved.

Rory joined the Carpenter family in 2016 at just three months old, arriving during an emotional season. Teresa’s father, Roy, had passed earlier that winter, and when their new puppy was born soon after, she chose a name that carried both love and remembrance—Rory, a sweet nod to her father’s name.

Today, Rory is the heart of the household. He loves following Mike from room to room, always ready for a walk, a cuddle, or a bit of fun. He’s mastered all the classic commands—sit, stay, and a few more he eagerly performs when treats are involved. His favorite pastimes include tug-of-war with his loyal stuffed alligator and savoring Greenies or Milkbone beefy bones.

One of Teresa’s favorite memories captures Rory’s personality perfectly. When he was still adjusting to his new home, he followed Mike into the garden—where he proceeded to sneakily devour every succulent in sight. Moments later, feeling playful, Rory danced around Mike as he watered the flowers, quickly transforming himself into a mud-covered, head-to-toe mess. It was chaos, laughter, and love all wrapped into one unforgettable moment.

Around the neighborhood, Rory is a social butterfly. He loves being wherever the people are and has befriended many neighbors along the way. He enjoys walks through Tom Triplett Park, where there’s plenty to sniff and explore, and he’s always excited for a grooming appointment at Bentley’s. For the occasional getaway, Pets Paradise has become a trusted home-away-from-home—Teresa highly recommends them.
