Westbrook Hearts with Paws

Kindness isn’t just a virtue—it’s a way of life. And for Beth and Bob, it’s expressed in the most tender, tail-twitching way possible: by giving local cats a second chance at life through their volunteer work with Pooler Paws.
What started as a simple decision to adopt two rescue cats has grown into a full-blown mission of love and service. “We didn’t expect it to turn into something bigger,” Bob shares with a chuckle. “But once we saw the care and compassion at Pooler Paws, we were all in.” That “all in” now looks like four years of volunteering with the nonprofit, where the couple helps with daily care, adoption events, and just about anything else the organization needs to keep tails wagging—or, in this case, whiskers twitching.
Pooler Paws isn’t just a cat rescue—it’s a community effort rooted in compassion. This volunteer-run nonprofit dedicates itself to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming abandoned or at-risk cats throughout the Pooler and West Chatham area. From fostering and medical care to spreading awareness about spaying, neutering, and the joys of adopting, their mission is as pure as a kitten’s purr.
“The work they do is deeply personal,” Beth adds. “It’s not just about finding homes for cats—it’s about healing, hope, and second chances. Being part of that feels like an honor.”
Though it’s just the two of them officially volunteering, Beth and Bob know they’re part of something much larger. And they’d love to see that circle widen.
“There are so many ways Westbrook neighbors can jump in,” Bob says. “Whether it's spending a little time at the rescue, helping at events, or donating supplies like food or litter—it all makes a huge difference.” They’re also passionate about fostering, which they call “a total game-changer” for both the cats and the humans who care for them. “It’s pure magic watching a shy, scared cat blossom in a loving home,” Beth adds.
Living in Pooler for the past five years, the couple has found more than a rescue—they’ve found community. “We love the warmth here,” says Beth. “There’s this small-town feel where people still wave, still help each other out. It’s the perfect place to plant roots—and give back.”
If your heart beats a little faster at the thought of making a difference, consider this your nudge. Whether you’re ready to foster, donate, or simply share the story of a whiskered friend looking for love, Pooler Paws is always looking for more hands—and hearts.
Because around here, making a difference doesn’t always come with a loud roar. Sometimes, it purrs.
