For me, local arts are a cultural unifier, enriching our community in ways that make Sarasota uniquely attractive beyond the draw of our glorious coastline. When my friend, Eduardo Anaya, asked if I was interested in attending, Asolo Repertory's Sapphire Gala Event at the Ritz-Carlton, my response was a resounding "yes”. It was the perfect late February Sarasota evening, dry warm with the sun beginning to set. As we passed Marina Jack, I pinched myself as a reminder, “I live here” and am thankful for all this beach town offers. The Ritz-Carlton's ballroom, adorned in shades of blue, is a tribute to Asolo's "We Got Rhythm" Sapphire Gala Theme." The gala was nothing short of spectacular.

 

My friend, Eduardo, an inspiration to many, is a confident, self-assured, engaging young man. "I know firsthand my challenges growing up an 'at-risk youth,' and I can unequivocally credit the arts as a supportive environment that profoundly shaped my life and expanded my worldview," he says. Eduardo is the ultimate testament to the transformative role arts have in lives and communities. His motivation is clear and personal, and he lights up sharing Asolo Rep's reduced ticket initiative for students 25 years old or younger, making it more accessible. Asolo Repertory Theatre is a Sarasota treasure, now in its sixty-fifth season. Let's continue supporting the richness of our Local Arts, ensuring the legacy continues inspiring generations with high-caliber productions and community programming.
