Healthy Holiday Habits

Tips to navigate the upcoming holiday season

With the holiday season around the corner, and with so many opportunities to indulge, it can be difficult to maintain healthy habits.

It’s not about overhauling your life overnight—it’s about the little things you do consistently that add up to lasting change. Things like drinking more water, taking the stairs, prioritizing rest, and practicing gratitude.

Here are a few tips so you can enjoy the holidays, while keeping it healthy.

Eat a snack before you go to the event. Showing up hungry puts a dent in our willpower muscle. Incorporating a snack that includes protein and fiber can help you make smart choices when surrounded by temptations.

Portion out your food on a plate. Instead of grabbing a snack every time you pass the charcuterie board, make yourself a plate of food to stay mindful of how much you're consuming.

Bring a dish to share. Find a dish that supports YOUR nutrition goals. That way, you'll have a healthy option available.

We get it – you want to enjoy a glass of bubbles or your favorite cocktail. Drink one glass of water for every alcoholic beverage you consume to slow down your drinking and help you stay hydrated. Still, it’s important to be mindful of just how much alcohol we’re consuming. First, know what counts as a serving of your favorite drink. (See picture below).

Ready to take it to the next level? Option for a low-sugar mocktail instead. My go-to is ordering a club soda with fresh lime and mint – ask for it in a wine glass to feel fancy (without the hangover).
