Red Rock Park: Next Steps Toward a Neighborhood Gem

Back in May, we shared the exciting news that Red Rock Park was entering a new phase of improvements. Since then, Sarasota County has made steady progress, and now the project is preparing for major upgrades that will begin in January 2026.

What’s Already Happened
Over the past year, neighbors have already seen important changes at the park:
  • Public Utilities Vacuum Station upgrade completed.
  • Fresh paint on the utility building.
  • Improved open play field for sports and gatherings.
  • New ADA-accessible water fountain with bottle filler.
  • Restrooms are currently being refurbished with new flooring, doors, fixtures, and lighting
What’s Coming Next: The county has committed funds for Option A ($150,000), which includes replacement playground equipment, fencing, and benches. But two additional concept plans are on the table:
  • Option B ($250,000 total): Adds enhanced shelters and upgraded play features ($100,000 more needed).
  • Option C ($500,000 total): A full vision for Red Rock Park, with expanded amenities, upgraded pathways, and improved landscaping ($350,000 more needed)
These higher-level plans are only possible if the community helps bridge the funding gap.

How Neighbors Can Help: This is where our neighborhood comes in. The City and County are investing, but our donations can directly elevate Red Rock Park from “good enough” to “something special.” Every dollar given through the Friends of Sarasota County Parks goes straight to the Red Rock Park project.

  • Attend county update meetings to keep momentum strong.
Why It Matters
For more than two decades, Red Rock Park has been waiting for renewal. These improvements will provide:
  • A safe, modern playground for kids.
  • Welcoming spaces for family gatherings.
  • A vibrant community hub that strengthens our neighborhood’s character — and even boosts property values
