Dr. Audrey Raley is "writing her own story"

Hello residents of VO, I’m Dr. Audrey Raley, and I am a Therapeutic Optometrist and Glaucoma
Specialist. I grew up in the Bulverde area and actually attended Smithson Valley High School. I
became a Fightin’ Texas Aggie and then obtained my Doctorate of Optometry at the University
of Houston thereafter. I opened Refined Eye Care & Eyewear Gallery with a mission to create a personalized yet professional eye care and eyewear experience. My practice will celebrate five years in business in March of 2024 and I take great pride in knowing that the choice to serve this community was by far one of my most incredible decisions to date.

I live very close to the practice, right here in New Braunfels (only about a 3-minute commute!)
This comes in handy for emergency visits that I am known to make for my patients after hours
or on weekends. Some of my patients are aware that I even bring my mini dachshund, Hazel, to work most days where she enjoys belly rubs in the breakroom! While I spend my time caring for eyes, my husband, Hunter, works in homebuilding and enjoys all things construction-related. We truly enjoy the laid-back vibe that New Braunfels has to offer. Our favorite weekend spots
include dinner at the Gruene Door, sipping cocktails, and enjoying jazz at Sidecar, as well as
enjoying Texas sunsets on our back patio. A secret to know is that once a week you’ll find me at
the Mission Valley Bowling Club with close friends in a 9-pin bowling league!

After earning my doctorate, I settled in Austin, Texas where I worked for different Optometric
practices. I always knew that I would open a practice of my own one day, but I was inspired to
“write my own story” when I was able to observe some of the pitfalls and shortcomings in
healthcare today.

Refined Eye Care is unique in that you won't find the level of hospitality that we offer at most
optometric practices. We take pride in genuinely catering to the needs of each patient because
we understand the implications of poor vision in a person’s everyday life. Said simply, we are
compassionate about our work and our service. Our team is well educated and we are fulfilled
daily by interacting and connecting with people. In our industry, the market is saturated with
large-scale manufactured eyewear, but we make efforts to only work with small, independent
eyewear companies. As a small business ourselves, we enjoy working with these unique
vendors because of their high level of care and detail, and alignment with our standards. There
is nothing more satisfying than helping others “see clearly.” Sight is arguably the most precious
of the senses and one that we strive to both restore and protect.

I am proud to say that we are intentional with involvement and sponsorship in our community.
Over the years, we have sponsored the Comal County Crisis Center, the New Braunfels
Jaycees philanthropic efforts, Room Redux transformations for the physically and sexually
abused, as well as provided donations for auction items that support veterans, animal shelters,
law enforcement, and firefighters.

Due to the rise of certain systemic conditions, and the use of digital devices in today’s world, the public should know that guidelines set by the American Optometric Association were recently changed. This update includes recommendations for comprehensive eye exams for all ages every 12 months. Many are unaware that the retina does not contain pain receptors, and thus some eye diseases can occur without pain or visual symptoms. This is why annual eye exams are imperative to your long-term vision and eye health.

Reflecting upon the past and moving forward into 2024, I am grateful for health, and the many
great relationships in life. I attribute my success thus far to my family, friends, mentors, and my
faith. They have given me purpose and encouragement to leave the world better than I found it.
One of my favorite quotes is “In all human affairs there are efforts, and there are results, and the strength of the effort is the measure of the result." - James Allen

Can’t wait to see you all at the Eyewear Gallery. Thank you for allowing me to be your friendly neighborhood eye doc…

Cheers!
