Tackling Challenges
Meet Twin Rivers residents Brooklyn and Roman Pruitt who are a brother and sister who play rugby. Brooklyn (16) attends Midway High School while Roman (12) attends River Valley Middle School. Brooklyn plays on an all girls team and Roman on an all boys team, but they both play for the Mud Dogs Rugby Club which is Waco's only youth rugby program. Roman says that all are welcome to come and try out for the team (if in the age limit!).
Brooklyn
As a part of the Lady Mud Dogs, Brooklyn plays wing/prop. Her favorite moment came in her first tournament when she was full of adrenaline and got her first tackle! She saw the girl with the ball coming right at her so she tackled her and pulled her to the ground. Her team then got the ball and they won.
She plans to stick with rugby throughout high school and college. Texas A&M is where she'd like to attend college and eventually become a Kindergarten teacher.
Roman
Roman loves going around the neighborhood on his scooter, playing rugby and fishing. When playing rugby, he is the prop/hooker. He used to play football with some of his buddies and one of their dads happened to be the Baylor rugby coach. He started a youth rugby team and invited Roman to play. The New Zealand All Blacks are his favorite team and Richie McCaw his favorite player.
The highlight of his rugby playing came when he got his first two tries in the same match. He hopes to play for the Houston SaberCats or do Motocross when he grows up.
