Snuggling up with the Greyhound pups

Bruno and Stassi are Italian Greyhounds born in September of 2021, they’re from different litters but the same breeder and are now part of the Sturges family. Bruno is named after the Italian wine brand Brunello, and upon meeting him, his mom fell in love with him immediately.

“When I went to the breeder, Bruno was such a lover boy. There were probably 8 to 10 puppies left from this gentleman’s fall litter, and I just picked him up, and he just basically fell asleep snuggled in my lap within minutes. And I was like, ‘Okay well, I know he’s the one.’”

Italian Greyhounds are a unique breed because they’re so small and low-maintenance. The average weight of an Italian Greyhound is 7-14 pounds; they’re also hypoallergenic, don’t shed, and can be indoor potty-trained like cats. Unlike their larger counterparts, Greyhounds don’t need a lot of exercise and prefer to snuggle with you, making them the perfect apartment dog. Bruno and Stassi’s mom describes them as a velcro breed because they imprint so strongly and just want to snuggle with you.

For the Sturges family, Bruno and Stassi have been a beautiful addition to their home after their children moved out.

“I am a dog mom; we’re obsessed with these dogs, my husband and I. If you had told us two years ago how obsessed we were going to be about these two, we would’ve called you crazy, but we’re obsessed! We’re empty nesters, so these are our new babies.”

Part of being dog parents is spoiling your dogs a little, and the Sturges family is no exception. Every morning, they wake up and give Bruno and Stassi a Greenie, a dog dental treat that Bruno and Stassi love. They’ve gotten so used to this routine that exactly 6 hours after everyone goes to sleep, the dogs are up and prodding them awake so they can get their treat.
“If we happen to go to bed earlier, say 9 pm, 6 hours later in the wee hours of the morning, we’re getting up and schlepping to the container to get the Greenie! And it’s like, ‘What are we doing for our dogs?’”
