Where did you grow up? How long have you lived in the area? Tell us about your family
I grew up in Australia. I come from a very diverse family; my mother is El Salvadorean and my father is Scottish. I spent most of my childhood in a town called Brisbane which is on the East Coast of Australia. In 2021, in the middle of the pandemic, we moved to the south of France to a town called Aix en Provence. This was a pivotal moment for me in my life as it allowed me to see more of the world, learn about different cultures, and meet some amazing people. We then moved to the USA, and Gilbert has been our home since 2022. I love the area and it is a great feeling to be part of an amazing community.
Tell us about the events that led up to where you are now…
My parents have been business owners my whole life and they have taught me the value of hard work and perseverance. From a young age, I always liked the idea of being an entrepreneur and having the ability to work for myself. After finishing high school, I knew that I wanted to start my own business, but I wasn't sure in what field. So I spent some time working for other people and one of my jobs was as a holiday light installer for a large company in central Scottsdale. I am grateful to them for teaching me many skills, and when the job finished, I realised there was an opportunity to offer the same service to homes in my neighbourhood.
What is your business, how/why did you start your business?
Originally, this business started as a DYI project that my stepdad and I started. He really wanted to put lights on our house and we asked a company for a quote, and we could not believe the cost. I suggested to my stepdad that if we sourced the materials, I was confident that I could install the lights myself. After much research, we found very high-quality lights, and they looked amazing; even better than others in our area. So I decided to offer this service to other families in my area because I knew there were a lot of people who wanted their houses to have permanent lights, but didn’t want the massive price tag that came with them.
What is unique about your business?
Aside from the massive difference around price (I can get lights installed for 30-50% less than the big guys), I believe that I also offer a better quality product and a more careful installation. I take pride in every job I do and I make sure that the client is getting exactly what they want. I am a trained light installer, but when I do a job, I take my time - I install them like I am doing them on my own house, because that is how we started. I don't have fancy premises, or a big marketing budget, so I can keep prices low and make sure that my customers are getting maximum quality for their dollars.
Given your business expertise and the nature of what you do, what advice can you offer to Val Vista Lakes neighbors?
My advice is to get some lights on your house! A house with permanent lights stands out on the street, it is well-illuminated and safer. Permanent lighting makes your house more stylish and ready for any holiday/event you celebrate during the year! Our lights are fully controlled from our phone app, with endless colours and patterns. We also do accent lighting, string lights and tree wrapping- there are so many ways to create a really nice aesthetic environment in your entertainment areas.
As a professional, I would also advice people NOT to get on their roofs every holiday. Just get someone who is trained to do it. Permanent lights takes the hassle out of decorating and you can use them all year round to mark special days, game days, festive days, and holidays.
Lastly, I would advice people that you DON'T have to pay thousands and thousands for lights. Just call me and I'll hook you up :)
What else we should know about you, your family, or your business?
I have 8 sisters and brothers. It's very important to me to support myself and I have big goals to be able to build my business and expand my area. I appreciate all the support.
