Twelve-year-old Harper O’Kelley may attend law school in the future. The granddaughter of two lawyers, Harper says she “feels confident in her ability to reason and defend what she knows is true.”

 

For now, Harper is focused on being a kid.  Her favorite thing about school is going to the cafe for snacks and seasonal drinks.  She also enjoys The Rock’s interesting electives, such as art and theater. Harper is on the basketball team at The Rock and absolutely loves it!  It was initially challenging and forced her to step out of her comfort zone, but now it's a lot of fun. Harper shared that she “likes the experience of working as a team, and her great coaches have helped her develop the skills to be the best she can be.”  Talented on and off the court, Harper has also been in several theater productions and hopes to direct a play for the school next fall.

 

Harper practices basketball about two to three times a week and has games on Tuesdays and Thursdays, sometimes out of town.  She shared that the people around her drive her to be positive, so she tries to keep a good attitude and constantly looks for ways to improve herself. She has learned never to put herself down if she plays a game.  Keeping a positive mindset is a must. Harper’s mom has taught her to have a good attitude, and her dad taught her to appreciate the little things in life.

 

When she’s not at school, competing on the basketball court, or performing in a theater production, Harper likes hanging out with her friends.  They play basketball near the Clubhouse and ride bikes up to Patticakes; she enjoys pickleball and walking on the esplanade.  She laughs a lot with her family, mainly when listening to funny stories about her relatives.

 

Harper has a nine-year-old brother named Rhett and a Bichon Frise named Soleil, who is the cutest, and silliest dog ever. She is very close with her grandparents and shared she is blessed that they have vacation homes at the beach, in the country, in the mountains, and at the lake.   Family vacations are the best!
