Here are some things Dr. Good and her colleagues at Dermatology Specialists of
Gainesville want you to know:

- Through four years of medical school followed by four years of residency, dermatologists become experts in skin, hair, and nails. There are more than 3,000 skin conditions and diseases that dermatologists diagnose and treat, including skin cancers, rashes, moles, birthmarks, acne, rosacea, skin infections, cysts, hair loss, and abnormal nails. See a dermatologist if something is bothering you about your skin, hair, or nails!

- Florida is an amazing state full of nature and beaches, but it’s also ranked #2 in the nation for new melanoma cases. So, keep an eye out for spots that are growing, changing, bleeding, or not healing. Get checked out if you have something you’re worried about or a spot that isn’t looking or acting like your other spots. Much better to be safe than sorry!

- Several conditions may get harder to treat the longer you wait, including skin cancer, certain types of hair loss, acne that is leading to scarring, and hidradenitis suppurativa (an autoinflammatory condition that causes painful lumps to form under the skin, most commonly in areas where skin rubs on skin such as the armpits or groin).

- There are lots of benefits of sun protection. Protecting from the sun makes developing skin cancer less likely. In fact, skin cancer is one of the most preventable cancers. Sun protection helps prevent skin aging, like dark spots, sagging, and wrinkles. Sun protection is recommended for people of all skin tones.

If you are experiencing any condition of your skin, hair, or nails, come see us at Dermatology Specialists of Gainesville to be evaluated and treated.
