Tiburon’s story began in the late 1980s when Ken Allen shared his bold idea: “We’re going to

start a golf course.” Kathy’s first reaction? “Over my dead body.” At the time, the Allens were

balancing children in college, a home-building business, and a career transition. Yet Ken’s

determination and Kathy’s eventual support set the stage for something extraordinary.

Ken had grown up playing golf at the Field Club, and his passion, combined with his partnership with four others, sparked the idea of creating a new course near Gretna. Kathy remembers her first visit to the site—a landscape of cornfields, dirt roads, and dreams. The land had once been planned as a Lee Trevino-designed course called Coronado but had reverted to farmland after bankruptcy.

The five general partners committed to making the course happen, navigating financial risk,

logistics, and infrastructure development. 

Limited partners contributed $25,000 each, earning lots, lifetime memberships, and a share of future profits. By 1989, the clubhouse and first course were ready for play, though paths and finishing touches were still underway.

Kathy recalls, “It was mainly deer and wildlife at that point. We were building something truly

from scratch.” What began as a golf course dream would soon evolve into a community that

blended recreation, home development, and personal investment in a shared vision.
