Designing Homes Where Life Happens

After nearly five years in Thornwood, Courtney Golter says what she values most isn’t just the beautiful homes—it’s the feeling of community. “My favorite thing is definitely the sense of community,” she shares. “What I love most is seeing my kids and all their friends constantly running around together. It’s the kind of neighborhood where kids truly get to be kids.” That sense of connection and comfort at home is at the heart of Courtney’s work as the principal designer and owner of Interior Expressions.

Design is quite literally in Courtney’s DNA. She grew up in the interior design industry, working side by side with her mother for years in her family’s design business. When her mother retired, Courtney stepped into ownership with confidence, carrying forward a lifelong love of design and years of hands-on experience. In her first year leading the business, she completed projects in 10 homes, with every client delighted by the results—a milestone she’s especially proud of.

Interior Expressions is a full-service design company, transforming everyday spaces into luxurious, functional havens. Courtney’s approach goes beyond selecting beautiful finishes. Her greatest joy comes from collaborating with clients to uncover their personal style and help them articulate what “home” truly means to them. She’s known for building strong relationships, guiding clients through the design process with ease, and delivering spaces that feel deeply personal and livable for years to come.

Staying current is a priority for Courtney. Each year, she attends the High Point Market in North Carolina, the largest furnishings trade show in the world. This allows her to preview trends 12–18 months before they become mainstream, sit-test new furniture, vet vendor quality, and source unique pieces not found in big-box stores. It’s part of how she ensures her clients have access to thoughtful, well-crafted design options.

No project is too small for Courtney. She’s just as enthusiastic about a paint consultation or selecting window treatments as she is about overseeing total-gut remodels. Right now, she’s managing two extensive remodels in Oak Brook, guiding each home’s transformation from the studs up—rethinking layouts for modern living and selecting everything from tile and stone to full paint and finish palettes.

“As a designer, I see the neighborhood as more than houses—I see the life that happens inside them,” Courtney says. Whether she’s walking her kids to a friend’s house or driving through Thornwood, she notices how thoughtful design can lift the spirit of an entire block. For Courtney, the best-designed homes are the ones where people feel most comfortable gathering—and that’s exactly what she strives to create for her neighbors.
