16 Years In The Making - Brooklyn Thompson is Running Toward Success
Meet Brooklyn Thompson, a dedicated student-athlete and proud Thornwood resident who’s making the most of her high school experience—on and off the track. Brooklyn, a sophomore at St. Charles North High School, will be turning 16 this October and has lived in Thornwood her entire life. Whether she’s running hurdles, playing cello, or volunteering with local kids, Brooklyn brings enthusiasm and heart to everything she does.
Brooklyn is a member of both the Cross Country and Track & Field teams at St. Charles North. She earned varsity letters in both sports as a freshman—a clear reflection of her determination and discipline. Her main events on the track include the 300 hurdles, 4 x 400 relay, and 800 meter. She trains hard year-round, finding balance between her athletic goals, academic commitments, and extracurricular activities.
When she’s not competing, Brooklyn is active in multiple areas of school life. She started playing piano in first grade and picked up cello in third grade. She now plays in the St. Charles North orchestra. She recently earned a spot in the Philharmonic orchestra for her sophomore year and was inducted into the Tri-M Music Honor Society. Academically, she’s also part of the Spanish National Honor Society, reflecting her passion for learning and service.
Brooklyn is a natural leader and mentor, participating in Educators Rising, a club for students who enjoy working with children or are interested in becoming teachers. She volunteers at events like faculty babysitting nights and also hosts her own annual craft session for kids in the Thornwood neighborhood, which include making projects and jewelry.
At home, she helps care for her family’s golden retriever, Sugar, and babysits and pet-sits for several Thornwood families. She enjoys running around the neighborhood pond, hanging out with friends in the backyard, and ordering from local favorites like Potbelly, Jersey Mike’s, and Panera.
Brooklyn’s favorite memories in Thornwood include sunny days at the neighborhood pool and meeting new friends through all the connections she’s made here.
With so much drive, kindness, and a strong connection to her community, we can’t wait to see all the amazing things she’ll accomplish in her 16th year and beyond.
