Turning 16: Meet Chase Miller and Charlie

Chase Miller is 15 years old and about to begin his sophomore year at St. Charles North High School. He’s the oldest of three kids in his family—his brother Cole is 13 and entering eighth grade, and his little sister Cora is 6 and starting first grade. Life in the Miller household is never boring with three active kids under one roof.

The Millers moved to Thornwood more than nine years ago from Bartlett. Chase’s parents were searching for a strong school district and a neighborhood full of kids, and Thornwood had everything they hoped for. Chase recalls one of his first memories: the day his dad built a backyard trampoline. It wasn’t long before neighborhood kids were lining up to join in the fun—it was the perfect introduction to the community.

Now attending St. Charles North, Chase stays busy with a variety of sports and clubs. As a freshman, he wrestled and played volleyball, both of which he found challenging and rewarding. He also joined the Film Club, eSports, and gave Ultimate Frisbee a try when it didn’t conflict with his other commitments. He participated in Peer Leadership and completed Driver’s Ed last year. With his permit in hand, he’s eagerly anticipating getting his license. Over the summer, Chase has been applying for jobs at local restaurants. While waiting for an opportunity, he helps out at home by mowing the lawn and babysitting his younger sister.

The family adopted Charlie, their cat, after a Thornwood neighbor posted about a kitten left in a box with a note saying the previous owner couldn’t keep her. Coincidentally, Chase’s sister had just asked for a kitten for her birthday. The timing was perfect, and Charlie quickly became a beloved member of the family.

Chase enjoys music, movies, and video games. AJR is his current favorite band, and he loves long bike rides through the neighborhood—either with friends or solo with his headphones in. His go-to food spots with friends are Red Robin and Chick-Fil-A, and he also enjoys special outings to Ella’s and St. Charles Place. He attends Christ Community Church and participates in the youth group, Refuge, which hosts fun and meaningful events for teens.

Chase appreciates the sense of community in Thornwood, from the neighborhood pool and parks to the walking paths and even the deer that occasionally wander into his backyard. For Chase, Thornwood is more than a neighborhood—it’s home.
