We are pretty big animal lovers and have fostered and adopted many fur babies over the years. When we immigrated to the US from Canada in 2014, my poor husband had to drive because we had a dog, a cat and two guinea pigs that couldn’t fly! One of those guinea pigs lived to be about 10 years old. Who knew they could live so long!

At the moment we have three older dogs and a cat. We adopted Hank, the beagle mix, in 2015 from the city shelter. They couldn’t tell us exactly how old he was then but we’re guessing he is about 13 years old now. He’s that boy that likes to regally stare out into a field and contemplate life. 

Fuzzy, the black Lhasa Apso Shitzu mix, came from the Humane Society in 2016. His adoption was a compromise - My daughter begged for a French bulldog, and I talked her into adopting instead. He charmed us with little tricks and is very handsome. However, I must have needed to be taught a lesson in parenting because being Fuzzy’s pet mom has been quite a challenge. Apparently those two breeds should never be mixed because they make very high strung dogs with a shrill bark. We used to have to peel ourselves off the ceiling every time he alerted us that someone was walking by the house. Thankfully, he has mellowed with age!

Two years later during Covid, my daughter got the French bulldog she begged us for and we named her Cora. Cora is an incredible charmer and we are definitely French bulldog fans. Her snoring keeps us up at night sometimes, but we’ve adapted.

Our cat, Miss P, is a cuddly beauty who came from the Humane Society as a birthday gift to me one year. She loves to sit in our front yard and watch people and pets go by. She’s a ferocious hunter but thankfully, she doesn’t usually bring anything inside with her!  

We adore them all and they add so much happiness to our lives.
